Hi guys,
I’m hoping you can help me with an issue I’m having when exporting an Mp4 video.
I have created a .wav file for a video project i’m working on to upload to YouTube. The audio consists of music and sounds of ocean waves. The .wav file plays fine on it’s own, but once i export the video to mp4, I get bad audio distortion. I’ve tried playing around with all different types of settings but the max I can set it too is 48000khz & 256kbps for audio. Can mp4 be set to 384 Kbps or better?
The video audio converts fine in other formats that support 384 Kbps, can it be done on MP4 or should I give up and use a different format like mpeg2 instead? what other formats would you suggest for uploading the video to YouTube with good audio & video quality?
Looking forward to hearing your replies,

I don't see direct relation between 256K and your distortion, but
You got a good point why 384K isn't there as camcorders are doing 384K audio in mts files... I think.
I will look into it.

Re: Can you make mp4 use a higher than 256 KBps
Ok after a couple days pondering & investigating this matter, it is pretty clear to me that my current version of Corel is obviously very out dated. x7 ultimate
, 256kbp @ 48khz is the best I will get from this software for rendering audio in an MP4 container. Check mate or so it may seem. so the way I see it I have two options:
a) I spend more money on an updated version of Corel with the hope that it supports 384kbp (might as well make it 512kbp+)
Or
b) I convert AVCHD (m2t) 384/448 Kbps @ 48 KHz (which my current Corel will allow) and then find a video converter that will change it MP4 preferably at 384kbps or better. YouTube recommends AAC-LC at 384kbps for their stereo audio on MP4 videos and 512kbps for surround sound.
Does anyone know of any free decent video converter out there that will do this? I much prefer not buying yet another version of Corel

Re: Can you make mp4 use a higher than 256 KBps
Video Studio 2018 - you could install the trial version to give it a try
The limit for Mpeg4 audio data rate is 256kbps
If you convert to Avchd then digital Dolby audio would be used and allow a data rate of 448kbps
However I do not think increasing the data rate will fix your quality issue, as asik said “I don't see direct relation between 256K and your distortion”
You do not give any details or do not make it clear what the properties of your Wav file.
When you render the project try deselecting Smart Render to see if that improves the quality.

Re: Can you make mp4 use a higher than 256 KBps
Even, for few years I'm recommending XMedia Recode portable for all conversion needs.
I looked into the 256/384 thing. I do know that HDV did 384K audio only to learn that my Pana X900 doesn't... on all HD recording settings only 256K audio on it's mts's. I wonder why, strange.
But... As my VSX9 isn't ordinary with few of my tweaks I'm able to render out mp4 with 384K audio.
I don't know why corel set a limit. Could be it's relates to things beyond my knowledge of codec licensing or stability of the software.
Why you use m2t files ? what camcorder is it? can you upload 20sec file for us to try?
I will test other NLE's I have on that aspect. I will stop here as I have another that will do 320.
So... VS out of the box is limited up to 256K aac audio.

Re: Can you make mp4 use a higher than 256 KBps
Thanks you both for coming back to me on this one. Just to let you know Asik1, i’m not actually using a camcorder. My video is just music, sound effects and jpeg pictures, nothing to complicated, just fade out between each image. The audio is more my concern. The music was originally an mp3 (44.1khz@384kbps) the sound effects was a .wav (44.1khz,16bit,1181kbps), used audacity to mix both together to produce another .wav file at same stats. Their is nothing wrong with the .wav file as far as I can tell.
I rendered the video to m2t as the audio output could go all the way up to 448kbps, the end result is good, the audio sounds great in 384kbp/448kbps. I used a smaller portion to test it. I tried using xmedia as you suggested, it’s abit hit and miss, I managed to get a small test version to convert to MP4 at 448kbps with great success the audio sounded perfect. Only issue is that the video I want to create is 3 hours long, I tried today and after 11 hours it finally converted, but only the audio came through, visual was a black screen
, perhaps i’m Setting it wrong. The bit rate of the m2t was 18k, so I adjusted to same for the mp4 output, I think that might be the reason as the default was 1500. Also their are two AAC options, I went for the standard one rather than the one with German words against it. I’m willing to give it another go but I think I need to get a hang of using it properly before trying again.
Trevor I tried downloading the trial version of Corel VideoStudio Pro 2018, MP4 would only go up to 192kbps on drop down, also a lot of the other functionality seemed greed out, I can’t tell whether it’s that way because of being a trial version or because it’s limited that way in the original, very disappointed in Corel... they maybe loosing a customer to Vegas... if that trial version had showed the drop down as 384, 448, 512, 1M... I would have purchased it from amazon shortly afterwards... or maybe just bought the upgrade pack instead

Re: Can you make mp4 use a higher than 256 KBps
I have finally sussed it! After watching a couple of videos on how to use xmedia I realized that I’m selecting convert under video tab when I should be selecting copy instead, doing it this was you don’t have to make any changes to the video stats as they are already pre-selected & greyed out, the only changes I made were to the audio tab to change from AC3 to AAC instead, I selected 512kbps to make sure I got the best audio I could get too. Was so much quicker this time, took about 45 minutes. Really happy with the end result too, according to the file properties it is 2gb smaller than original 26gb, has twice the original frame rate (25fps to 50fps) video bit rate 20k+ 1920x1080 and audio 48khz with 455kbp. The audio sounds perfect too. So pleased, thanks you both for your help guys, very much appreciated. Good shout on xmedia Asik1 will definitely be using this going forward

Try Video to Video. It's free and better than many paid for software. https://www.videohelp.com/software/Vide ... -Converter
