Diffraction Filter position
Is it possible to reposition the centre of the "star" to show as on top of a building in VS 2018 ult.If so, how.

Re: Diffraction Filter position
I do not have the 2018 version, but on the earlier versions there is a filter setting/property. If you open it you will see the position at least on two points - beginning and end. You can adjust the positions and you can also add keypoints anywhere and adjust the position off the effect.
On the bottom part you can mostly adjust also the style of the effect.

Re: Diffraction Filter position
Place a white color board in Overlay1, then drag the Diffraction filter onto the color board, resize and position the overlay to the correct location on top of your building, then set the transparency to 99, now you should have the star in the correct location

Re: Diffraction Filter position
Place a dummy 16x9 or 4x3 dummy png on overlay track. Add star to it and place wherever.

Re: Diffraction Filter position
RobertOZ,
thank you for your advice. I found that setting the transparency before repositioning and resizing allowed for easier and more precise adjustment.
Pepegota,
Think I need more details on your method, I am doing something wrong somewhere. By “dummy” I guess you mean just a transparent place holder or carrier. How do I get it to be 16x9 and does it need to be as the overlay can be resized anyway .To get a png, I saved a white back ground as a png then imported it into the library, but after adding the fx the overlay keeps its white background

Re: Diffraction Filter position
Ken, if you save white than it will be white.
Save transparent image.
Or in other words save an image with nothing.

Re: Diffraction Filter position
Never having saved an image with nothing before and not really knowing how to do that, I returned to Paint Shop Pro 2019 and saved a white image made transparent via the .png optimizer.I imported this into VS and got VS to recognise it as transparent by selecting overlay options via Mask and Chroma key.I then had a transparent overlay that I could add the Diffraction Filter to.I do not see any advantage over this method as against just making an overlay transparent via increasing the transparency field to 99.But it could be of course it could bethat I am not following the correct workflow.

Re: Diffraction Filter position
Ken, I don't have/know PSP but I'm sure you can set it to make transparent background canvas as you set new image. Once you do so save it as PNG.

Re: Diffraction Filter position
Here is the method how I do such things.
Put a white background from the bachground library. This is for optional overlay with transparency)
Select the start from the effect library
Edit the position of the start (yellow mark).
In the effect editor you can add tabs and adjust the location as you like, the star will follow the adjustment.
The black line in the editor is showing the programmed motion of the star. ( the line is not visible, just one + will show the location of the star in each tab on the time axis.
On the last real picture for eg. the star follows on the video the the walls of the fort.

Re: Diffraction Filter position
Hi
yes I used a start filter, is easier to demonstrate and it has a function to relocate. The diffraction fiter does not have this. For that you have to use the method mentioned by Trevor. Put the diffraction filter on the white or black background and overlay this on your picture.
Test 2 shows the star.
Test 3 is the diffraction
In Test 3 there are 2 options. On the first overlay you can place the static picture and adjust its position from frame to frame,.
Onn the overlay2 there is a motion follower, the star remains on corner of the bastion when the camera moves or zoomes.
The system does not allow me to upload the vsp files.
Eugen
Ps. Send me in PM you private email, I will send the the vsp-s

Re: Diffraction Filter position
Hi
here are the printscreens. On the top you see on the right side just the black screen with the start on it. In the reality it is a very small black picture (400x300 pixel). You can adjust the size.
The star on it will follow the scene from the camera (motion control) ie it will stay always on the corner of the bastion (see the bottom screen.)
The green star has a programmed motion and will sweep on the top of the wall. (Phases)
