Hey there everybody. I've been a PSP fan for quite a long time, and recently I've been able to upgrade to the latest 2019 Ultimate (after years and years of using old v7 when JASC still owned it). Anyway, is there any kind of OFFLINE help available? Ideally a CHM file?
Yes, I know that because 'everybody' has an internet connection, all the manufacturers have gotten efficient (lazy?) and prefer to make that help available ONLINE since (supposedly) we all have access to it and it also makes it easy to only have to worry about maintaining just a single website with the help file, instead of having to update each persons computer. But I have it installed on a laptop and I work out in the field A LOT where I don't have an internet connection. So that means: No Help available.
I've been looking through the software and found that the HELP menu has an option for a USER GUIDE as a PDF. Well, okay, but I'd much rather have a help file to search through. Maybe it's not fair to compare them, but the help file back in v7 was able to interlink with the program directly so that if you looked something up, the help file had working links back to the program itself to bring up the necessary thing I was looking for help on. Is there any offline help available? I did some looking, and although there doesn't appear to be any OFFLINE help for PSP 2019, there *does* seem to be offline help for PSP 2018.
Well, for what it's worth, I installed that program, but I have no idea how to access that help. The Help in the program still goes to the website (FAIL), and I can't find any other kind of menu choice in the program for accessing this OFFLINE Help that I've apparently installed. If you aren't familiar with what/where I'm talking about, this is the web page I'm talking about, the last link:
https://www.paintshoppro.com/en/support ... sion-tab=0
I did a search through the forum, and the only entry I found similar was posted back in May 2016. Sadly, that thread refers to files that are not on my PC, and at the end refers to the same downloadable Offline Help which still doesn't work/isn't accessible.
Any ideas anybody?
Again, sorry to bother you nice people here, but I'm at a loss as to where else to check.
Thanks,
Frank

Re: Offline Help File
When I click Help>Help Topics in PSP2019 it opens a web browser pointing to this location on my hard drive:
C:\ProgramData\Corel\Corel PaintShop Pro 2019\Languages\EN\Help\index.html
All of the help topics are located in subfolders in that Help location. No need to go online.
C:\ProgramData\Corel\Corel PaintShop Pro 2019\Languages\EN\Help\index.html
All of the help topics are located in subfolders in that Help location. No need to go online.

Re: Offline Help File
Well, that's very interesting. When *I* go to HELP -> Help Topics… it takes me to:
http://help.corel.com/paintshop-pro/how ... _page.html
I wonder why my PC doesn't go to a local file? I did search for the location and file you mentioned. It *is* there. I wonder if I can somehow modify the settings (?) of PSP 2019 so that it does that, too… I guess that's my next task.
Thanks for the help!

Re: Offline Help File
For 2019 disconnecting from internet Help > Help Topics gave :
file:///C:/ProgramData/Corel/Corel%20PaintShop%20Pro%202019/Languages/EN/Help/index.html
When connected :
http://help.corel.com/paintshop-pro/how ... _page.html
Going back and checking earlier versions:
Jasc PSP8 and PSPX2 both went to local files
X3
Page not Found Error
http://product.corel.com/help/photopro/ ... 7F&single=
X4
http://product.corel.com/help/PhotoPro/ ... 7F&single=
X5

X6
Choice between Help > Help Topics (Goes online)
and Help > User Guide (PDF)
http://product.corel.com/help/PaintShop ... -page.html
Note that on the opening page was a statement that I was using the Online help with a link and clicking on that gave this :
Online and local Help
If you are connected to the Internet, the application displays the online Help. When you are online, you have access to the latest information, videos, and helpful links. If no Internet connection is available, the application displays the local Help that is installed on your computer.

X8
http://help.corel.com/paintshop-pro/v18 ... _page.html
X9
http://help.corel.com/paintshop-pro/v19 ... _page.html
Have downloaded at various times these two files which are identical in size and appearence:
paintshop-pro-x9 manual.pdf
paintshop-pro-x9Usr Guide .pdf
Also installed
PSPX9_LocalHelp.exe
Which referred to a multi language pack
No difference in Help > Help Topics ,still goes online if connected.
So perhaps a change could be made so that you can set the Help > Help Topics to always go for local files first whether connected or disconnected.
Currently as indicated it always attempts to go online - eventually we may see more of the Error not found fo later versions as Corel removes the pages for X4 upwards.
