There are obviously tons of options, and most people will recommend what they already own, or would like to own, without being overly objective.

An appropriate choice will also depend on your specific needs (HDV / low-light performance / size & weight / manual controls / DVD output / CCD count and size etc.)

I would check out camcorderinfo.com and its sister site easycamcorders.com.

I would make sure the camcorder has a firewire port on it.
That would be the connection method between the camcorder and
the computer to transfer the videos into VideoStudio9.

You also need the firewire input port on the computer so make sure
whatever computer your using has a firewire port of that also.

You have to purchase the firewire cable separately. They usually don't
come with the camcorder.

The type of cable for a computer desktop would be 4 pin to 6 pin firewire cable and a 4 pin to 4 pin for a laptop computer.

Panasonic PV-GS400.
I have one and I love it. Some reviews note that its performance is somewhat lacking in low light. In my experience, this is not a problem unless you want to take a lot of pictures of the inside of your closet... ;-))

I also use it for taking still pictures, which are every bit as good as my Sony 3MP camera.
