ASP3 Shows Incorrect Color in 5D MK IV Raw Images

Post by stellar_sue »

Hello… I am new to using AfterShot Pro 3 (ASP3) and this forum. I wanted to report a problem I am having with ASP3. The ASP3 thumbnails & images of the raw image files from my Canon EOS 5D Mark IV (Firmware version 1.0.4) are not showing the correct color and not consistently; some raw images are being affected and others are not. I have enclosed 5 screenshots (see uploaded images) and descriptions of the images (see list below) to help illustrate the problem I am having with the software. All the images, of a partially eclipsed sun, are original unprocessed images straight out of the camera. All the images, raw and .jpg alike, all show the correct orange hue when viewed with Digital Photo Professional 4 (DPP4). Screenshots 4 and 5 illustrate the fact that ASP3 is showing some raw images in the incorrect greenish-yellow color hue and others with the correct orange color hue…

The problem occurs equally when using ASP3 on either of my laptops, one a Fujitsu Lifebook T900 (Intel Core i7 CPU M640 @2.80 GHz) and the other a Lenovo Thinkpad T420 (Intel Core i7-2620M CPU @2.70 GHz), both running Windows 7 Professional 64bit (with all current updates).

Screenshot Descriptions
1-DPP4 Screenshot Image OR6A0001_CR2.JPG: Screenshot 1 of raw image OR6A0001.CR2 viewed with Canon’s Digital Photo Professional 4 (DDP4) shows correct orange hue of the partially eclipsed sun.
2-Corel ASP3 Screenshot OR6A0001_CR2.JPG: Screenshot 2 of raw image OR6A0001.CR2 viewed with ASP3 shows an incorrect greenish-yellow hue of the partially eclipsed sun.
3-Corel ASP3 Screenshot OR6A0001_JPG.JPG: Screenshot 3 of .jpg image OR6A0001.JPG viewed with ASP3 shows correct orange hue of the partially eclipsed sun (.jpg images all seem to have the correct color).
4-Corel ASP3 Screenshot OR6A00011_CR2.JPG: Screenshot 4 of raw image OR6A0011.CR2 viewed with ASP3 shows an incorrect greenish-yellow hue of the partially eclipsed sun.
5-Corel ASP3 Screenshot OR6A00012_CR2.JPG: Screenshot 5 of raw image OR6A0012.CR2 viewed with ASP3 shows the correct orange hue of the partially eclipsed sun (but the previous image, OR6A0011.CR2, shows an incorrect color hue).

I reported the problem to Corel Customer Support Services and they have confirmed that the problem lies in the ASP3 software and has to do with how ASP3 extracts the information of the raw files. Corel Customer Support Services indicated they did not have any information yet on when the next camera support patch will be available.

So Corel Customer Support Services suggested that I submit a request to the AfterShot development team using the “Submit Your Feedback” link (http://www.aftershotpro.com/en/feedback/). I reported the problem using this link, but there was no link to upload images to help illustrate the occurring problem. So I thought I would submit this information via the User Web Board hoping it might eventually make its way to the AfterShot development team.

I am not expecting miracles considering Corel appears to release updates for this software only about once per year. It will probably be some time early 2019 before Corel issues a possible software fix.

Update on ongoing problem, "ASP3 Shows Incorrect Color in 5D MK IV Raw Images"... I just installed the new update, AfterShotPro3 Update 5, and tried viewing the solar eclipse RAW images with it. THE PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN FIXED!   . The ASP3 thumbnails & images of the raw image files are still showing the incorrect yellow-green color (instead of orange) and showing it inconsistently (some pictures are incorrect and others are not)! SO, COREL TECHNICAL SUPPORT, ITS BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD... AGAIN!

When is Corel technical support going to fix this problem? It's been almost a year since I first posted this problem on this forum and I am still waiting for a fix.... It's really disappointing! APS3 is NOT a reliable alternative to Photoshop. I am now back to looking for an alternative to Photoshop. APS3 CERTAINLY IS NOT!

To be fair, it was never supposed to be an (utterly hopeless) Photoshop replacement.

Instead, it's an (utterly hopeless) LightRoom alternative.
