Terrible MP4 editing capabilities

Post by Nightrunner »

Hi everyone,

What I'm doing is pretty simple. I use the Windows 10 DVR to record gameplay, which I then want to edit (typically just cutting out bits that aren't needed, adding in some images, and doing some transitions between a few pieces - basic stuff), and finally upload to YouTube. I used to use Microsofts Movie Maker, but after a fresh install of Windows 10 sometime ago, it's no longer available. Fine! Great opportunity to scan the market and see whats out there! I'm familiar with CorelDRAW and PaintShop Pro from way back in the day, so was happy to see a video editing app too VideoStudio 2018. I have downloaded the TRIAL version of the software to try it out.

Low-and-behold: this thing cannot edit MP4 videos at all. As soon as I snip a piece out, I lose sound sync really badly, to the point where I'm a very noticeable second or so out of sync. I've done some forum searches but it doesnt seem alot of people have experienced this issue on THIS version of the software.

By contrast, I also downloaded the VEGAS Movie Studio trial, and guess what - no issues with MP4 editing at all. I can add images, add media, snip/cut etc. and it all stays in sync.

I prefer the Corel UI, and I haven't really figured out the transitions on VEGAS, they are not as auto-applyish as Corels. But damn man. I need to be able to edit MP4's without a sync issue because thats how they are captured.

Does anyone know how I can fix this? Would prefer to stay on Corel, but going to bail and go for VEGA (or another you might recommend?) if i cant get this working.

Help!

THe trial version has several features crippled or missing. THe full version has a 30 day refund policy you might want to look at.
You could also upload a short sample file to a site such as dropbox for us to look at and see if we can figure out where the problem.
In general VS has no problem at all with mp4.

Then there's no point in it being a trial I guess. Disappointing really - there would be a monumentally sized audience that are ditching VS because of this challenge I reckon. I think I'm just going to stop here and go with VEGAS Movie Studio 15. I'm not sure if Adobe Premier Elements is worth a go, but I see it has terrible ratings, so I've skipped it for the time being. Than you for the reply.
