Cannot put text on image

Hi,
I'm using PSP9X on win 10.
I am trying to enter some text on an image and, for the life of me, I don't even see what I'm typing.
The cursor moves to the right but there's no text.
Can some please point me to a tutorial?

Check in your Materials Palette that you have a color in the lower box and not transparency. Click the leftmost top button under the color Fil box.

I seem to have a color selected and I don't know what you mean by "leftmost top button under the color Fill box". There are dozens of buttons all over the screen. I need to know what steps to take after I select the text tool.

This diagram shows the button I mentioned. The Fill box needs to have a color, gradient or pattern chosen .

After you havs chosen the text tool you should set it to its default settings in case you have played around and changed some settings. The Presets for most tools have a down arrow to their right and further right in the drop down box are some buttons . The second button down is usually the Reset to Default button.

The rest of the text tool options are shown - choose a simple font, size about 1/10 of the pixel dimensions of your image/document (you can change that later) . units in pixels (to match the dimensions of your image. Change your stroke width to 0 for now and you should have create as Vector as the chosen style.

Click on your image and start typing and the letters should show up in your chosen fill color.

1st image: yes, I do have color.
However, when I click on the "Text" button, the "T" gets highlighted but nothing else happens.
I don't see what you show in your 2nd pic and the text tool bar (fonts, size, etc.) is nowhere to be seen.
Just my open image and a blinking, unmovable cursor somewhere on the screen.

Sounds like your program may be freezing
May have to do a reset program to default
This info from Corel re PSP X6 also applies to later versions so try in order

If none of the two operations there work you may have to uninstall, use the cleanup tool mentioned near the top of this forum and downlload and reinstall a fresh copy.

Well, I did a reset and closed some of the windows that crowded the screen but one thing I can't get rid of is this annoying "zoom level" thingy that follows the cursor. When I right-click the black window the "Floating" cannot be changed to "Hide".
I'm sure there is a setting somewhere, just can't find it.

Never mind, just found it.
