But im not selecting a layer out of another image- thats the problem. Im taking a file from windows explorer - open in my second window and dragging that across into my image. No reference to doing THAT in the User Guide that I could obviously see but it totally references what you are doing above.patara wrote:What I do in PSP is to select the layer I want to move in the Layers Palette and then click on it and while holding down the mouse button I drag that layer from the Layers Palette over onto the other image, and then drop it. It appears as a new layer above the active layer. I never drop it onto the Layers Palette, but directly onto the image. If Tabbed Documents is being used, I drag the layer from the Layers Palette up to the Tab of the image I want, when that image opens, I then drop the layer onto it.
Cannot move/edit size/orientation of a specific layer

In PSP, you can't drag an image from Explorer and drop into another image. That is how I can do it in PS, but in PSP I need to drag and drop it onto the workspace interface where it makes a new image document and then I can drag the layer in the Layers Palette of that new image and drop it onto the other image file. If it requires resizing I would either do it before or after the dragging and dropping.

Actually you can and I do it often. This works as long as you access Windows Explorer outside of PSP. If you use the File -> Open method to access Windows Explorer from within PSP you cannot drag and drop.patara wrote:In PSP, you can't drag an image from Explorer and drop into another image.

Re: Cannot move/edit size/orientation of a specific layer
When you first started using PS there was a hugelearning curve and because it is such a hige program there is probably still much for people to learn
When you start with PSP there is a large learning curve, but probably not as much as in PS as there is less choices and many are workarounds for what you can do in PS. Some things are faster and easier to do in PSP and some are faster in PDS.
If you want a program to be just like PS then go and purchase PS.
To use PSP you need to learn to use it the PSP way.
Two things I find faster in PSP
1.- stroking text - in PSP it can be done in the same action as when you type in the text. IN PSP stroking as another procedure after you have typed the text.
2. If you have say 5 layers with a small object on each layer surrounded by transparency then in PS you have to select the layer , move the object, select the next layer , move the object etc. You have to choose each layer as a separate action.
IN PSP you only have to click on a non transparent object on the image and that layer is automatically selected , move the object, choose the next object , move it etc. You don'y have to keep moving over to the layers palette to choose the layer.
3. In PS to copy an image you have to do Select all the copy. In PSP this step is redundant as when you do Edit > Copy PSP assumes that unless you have selected a smaller section you want to select and copy the whole image anyway.
Yeah I know there are three types of people in the world, those that can count and those that can't.

Re: Cannot move/edit size/orientation of a specific layer
FWIW I was an original PSP user back when JASC owned it, I think the first version of it I used was 6 or 7 and I was very fond of it and sold a heap of them (worked in computer retail at the time)
Since then got more into photography and have been using PS extensively - its now my reference point for "i can do this thing - how do I do it in PSP"
yeah it probably works differently and there are pros and cons for each option. But when you are used to one way, and the help files/user guide is as limited as it is, trying to figure out what the tool is called or the function when you *DON'T KNOW* is kinda hard.

Ok. That has never worked for me as I always drop onto interface, which I mentioned. But I just tested and dropped onto the layer, the way you do it and then yes, it works. Handy to know.
When I wrote my reply your earlier response was not showing my end or I would have seen your comment about it.

Re: Cannot move/edit size/orientation of a specific layer
And isn't it amazing that even with a program that is supposed to be much simpler than PS we all keep learning more about our favorite program. So if PSP users are still learning new things how much more must PS users have to learn.
No Thanks for me!!
