I've discovered a problem with PSP 2019 when I use the crop tool. I take all my photos in RAW, and then edit them in PSP. Part of the process is cropping the photo if I didn't get the crop the way I wanted when taking the photo. When I open the crop tool, the crop rectangle appears on the photo and everything in the rectangle then gets much brighter than before. No, it's not because the areas of the photo outside of the crop rectangle is shaded - the area inside the photo actually gets brightened by the program.
The only work around I've found that works is to turn off the option of having the parts of the photo outside the crop rectangle shaded. This just leaves the crop rectangle, but there's not more brightness issue. Not sure what this is all about.

That's the idea with the "Enable Crop Shaded Area" option. It has nothing to do with whether or not you're starting with a RAW image or any other image. The idea is that, with that option enabled, the crop area appears brighter so that it stands out, and the area around it becomes darker. But when you finish you cropping the image (whether cropped to the box or cropped as new image) will appear as it is supposed to appear. It works the same with previous versions, so I'm assuming that this is your first version of PSP??

Re: PSP 2019 crop tool - increasing exposure!
The crop tool behaviour is different from previous version.
During the crop rectangle drawing, the inside area is same luminosity value as original.
When crop rectangle is drawn, luminosity increases.
Moving the selection modifies the inside luminosity and increases shading outside.
When Preferences are set to remove outside shading, the shading is not completely removed.

I have this problem. And am stuck as I don't know how to "remove outside shading" in Preferences.Jean-Luc wrote:The crop tool behaviour is different from previous version.

Any help would be great.

The only time I get that brightening effect is if the Enhance Photo Options on the floating crop bar is turned on . Turn it off (turns red) and there should be no change in the brightness of the inner crop area.
Another bright feature from the Corel team .
A strange idea that they think you want to make changes to the precropped image rather than to the image after it has been cropped - when the floating crop bar has disappeared.

After the recent update, behaviour is reverted to normal.nowipowi wrote: I have this problem. And am stuck as I don't know how to "remove outside shading" in Preferences.

You may remove the outside shading of the crop rectangle in Preferences / Transparency and shading / Shading / Set Opacity to a lower value. You may also change the shading color.
