white bar appears across captured video files in 2.5 SE

I'm using DVD Moviefactory 2.5 SE on a PC using XP and I'm trying to transfer VHS videos onto my computer so I can make DVDs out of them. The capturing appears to be going fine, everything appears as normal on the capture screen but my problem is that I'll go and view the captured file in a media player of some sort and every once in a while, for no apparent reason, a big horizon white block appears across the moving video, blanking out the mid section of the picture for a few seconds. this seems to occur randomly and usually only lasts for a few seconds, but (and im sure you can understand my frustration) I'll be capturing a segment several minutes long and after i go through to check it, i find 1 or 2 spots were a white block popped up and now i have to redo the capture. The weird thing is that the white block doesn't appear in the capture preview window, only when i play back the file in a media player of some sort, or of course when i burn the file to dvd.

I thought it might have something to do with a "trial period, demo version, unregistered" thing, but i've got the full version and i registered it, but still i have the problems.
