VS 2018 crashes with high res mp4
I enter a clip from my Panasonic FZ 2500 camera, at 3840x2160, and the program crashed immediately.
Any ideas?

Hi
Sorry you are having problems, I would report this to Corel Support.
Although Corel are aware of some problems when using 4K Mpeg4
Can you provide a sample, you would have to upload to a sharing site, Google Drive etc.

Re: VS 2018 crashes with high res mp4
But, is anyone else having this problem? I converted to standard DVD without issue as DVD and Blu Ray are the way to make viewable discs but, it should work out of the box.

Re: VS 2018 crashes with high res mp4
Hi
I do not know of anyone else using a FZ 2500 camera, all I can say is that there does seem to be some issues using mp4, there are many types / flavours of Mpeg4, it may be your environment, then again it may be the program.
The only way Corel will be aware of any problems is if users report them to Corel Support
As you are aware we do not work for Corel but I am quite willing to test your files.

Re: VS 2018 crashes with high res mp4
Hi Asik
No problems in inserting those to VS timeline (Ok using X9 fully patched to version 19.7.0.12)
yvidP1000680-4K-FULL-ZOOM-36-720.MP4
yvidP1000809-4K-AF-TELEPHOTO.MP4
Needed Smart Proxy to play on timelines
MPEG-4 Files
24 bits, 3840 x 2160, 29.97 fps
Frame-based
H.264 High Profile Video: 105600 Kbps
48000 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo
MPEG AAC Audio: 128 Kbps
If its not snowing then the quality is a little poor, but I think its snowing.
Second video fades in and out from feeder to bird box, feeder needs some birdfood.
The only problem I can see maybe the high data rate as VS has a 65Mb limit, so rendering is gonna reduce the original rate. Just to prove me wrong rendering to same as first clip did use the 105600Kb rate

Re: VS 2018 crashes with high res mp4
I had no trouble at all inserting and playing those two clips in VS 2018. No SmartProxy required. Matched Project Properties to the first one. I put them together and rendered Same As Project Settings. However, unlike Trevor, the data rate in the resulting video was significantly reduced to 37588 kbps.
I created a new project and inserted just the first clip. Rendered Same As First Clip. Got exactly the same reduced data rate.
Interestingly enough, I tried exactly the same things in X10, but this time the resulting video had the original bitrate of 105,600 kbps. Rendering also took more than twice as long as it did in VS 2018. So obviously there is something strange happening with 2018 handling of 4k mp4, or just mp4 generally.

Re: VS 2018 crashes with high res mp4
I've alerted our Corel VS contacts to this thread. Given that it's now the weekend, it will probably be a while before we get any response.
However pepegota: it would be useful if we had some of your FZ2500 video to test ourselves...
And asik: do you have any idea which camera was used to film those clips in the links you provided?

asik1, the video you pointed too plays without issue and is the same res. as my Panny video, VS does not like Panny?

That's why we are asking for a Panny sample -- to see if our VS doesn't like it too...

Re: VS 2018 crashes with high res mp4
I always use Blu Ray and DVD discs in my projects as 4K has a way to go and is expensive now.
Time will change that. I wanted to see how 3840x2160 video would play from my Panny FZ 2500 so,
I shot this in the house to see what it could do. That's when it failed.
However, other MP4 videos at that resolution play well. Test clip can be downloaded from:
https://www.sugarsync.com/pf/D1814182_040_875733758
I hope this helps.

Re: VS 2018 crashes with high res mp4
Thanks Joseph -- very useful. However, I had no trouble at all inserting that clip in VS 2018 (and X10) and playing it in both Clip and Project modes. Playback was smooth so again no SmartProxy was required, at least by me.
I rendered the video using Same As Project Settings, and got the same result as with asik's samples, namely a fine, clear 4K video but whose bitrate had been reduced from the original 105,600 kbps to 37,800 kbps. In X10, as with asik's samples, the new video rendered with the full original bitrate of 105,600 kbps.
So for me at least, no problems at all with the Panny video -- but just the ongoing concern about the variation in bitrate between VS 2018 and X10.
Can we assume, by the way, that you are using the fully updated VS 2018 whose version number is 21.3.0.141?

Yes, I have the latest version. I am going to try it on my Windows 10 machine as this was done with Windows 7.
I will inform you of the results.

Well I'll be darned. No problem with Windows 10; it played smoothly. Looks like it could be a Windows 7 problem. I have all the updates.
