Re: PSPro 2018 cant find scanner
You mention it's started to show the message. Does that mean that same version of PSP worked with your scanner previously?
Also, are you using 32-bit or 64-bit PSP 2018?

Re: PSPro 2018 cant find scanner
Ken -- Forget for the moment the usual way you start a scan. Instead, using the 32 bit version of PSP 2018, what happens if you click on the scanner icon fourth from the top left of the PSP screen? If you hover your mouse over that icon it should say "Scan from TWAIN". In theory that should open the usual dialogue box where you can set the properties of the scan, and do a prescan and the full scan. It should be labelled with your Canoscan since that will have a TWAIN driver installed which should work with the 32 bit version of PSP.
If you are using the 64 bit version, when you click that same icon, a message should appear saying there is no TWAIN source. Instead, you would need to go to File > Import > From Scanner or Camera, you should get a box showing the Canoscan. And when you select that, you should get a scan dialogue box similar to, but not quite as detailed, as the TWAIN box in the 32 bit version. It will still allow you to scan, however.

Re: PSPro 2018 cant find scanner
In the 64 bit version, when I click on the 4th icon along ,I get the same message” no scanner found” as when I use File>import>Twain acquire. When I hover on that icon, a tool tip shows saying “scan image via twain” I have always used this method with no problem up until now, I have no proof but I think this could be the result of a Windows 7 update.

Re: PSPro 2018 cant find scanner
It is more likely that your TWAIN driver -- like just about all TWAIN drivers -- only works on a 32 bit program. It will simply not work on the 64 bit PSP so there is no point in your trying this. That is why I asked if you could my steps above on PSP x 32 bit. And it's another reason why having PSP install both the 32 and 64 bit versions continues to be useful.
In the 64 bit version, you can only use File > Import > From Scanner or Camera, as I have already said, and that will give you much the same scan and output, though the scanning interface is not as sophisticated as the full TWAIN one.
FWIW, I have two Canoscans -- the first is a positively ancient LiDE 25 which I bought in the early '90s. It still works just fine, though it takes a bit of sleuthing to get drivers to work with it. Canon refuses to produce Win 10 drivers, and also I think for Win 8 as well. But the Win 7 driver works well under Win 10. I also use Canon Toolbox 4.9 with it -- another old program, but again it works fine. With that I have set one of the scan buttons to send the scan to PSP 2019 though making sure it is the 32 bit version. You can of course also set it to send them to PSP 2018 or earlier versions if you like, but again making sure it is a 32 bit version. And this too works fine and I imagine follows your preferred workflow -- while I prefer that scan button within PSP itself as it automatically opens the TWAIN interface.

Re: PSPro 2018 cant find scanner
Thank you so much Ken for the solution !Everything works fine with the 32 bit version of PSP.I am convinced things worked with the 64bit version because the short cut was pinned to the taskbar and that is how I accessed it. Fortunately both versions were provided for download at purchase. The 32 bit is now pinned to the taskbar .Thought this issue was going to lead to all sorts messing about but again you have come to my rescue
