PicToPainting with Paint Shop pro 2019

PicToPainting shows in PSP 2018's Get More as "New" and for a price of around US$30. I certainly did not buy it then, but have it as a working plug-in in both PSP 2018 and 2019. However, in the case of PSP 2018, I probably just pointed to its file in Preferences > File Locations > Plug-Ins

This is an odd statement. What could you possibly have done in designing the plug-in side to make it highly specific to 2019? The plug-in calls the pic to painting program which is more or less stand-alone. Runs electron which runs some "compiled" python scripts.

With very minor edits the pic-to-painting app can be made completely stand-alone and run from a python script inside all copies of PSP....not that I have done this of course. Just going on observation. <.<

Good point, Levi. Perhaps they are trying to limit PicToPainting from previous versions to force people to purchase later versions. Just a thought....

For what it's worth, I just noticed that when I downloaded and installed the new PicToPainting v.1.1 it installed in both 32bi and 64bit versions of PSP2019, 2018, X9 and X7. I only had the 32bit version of X8 installed and the plugin did not install there.

So I tried it out in PSPX7 64bit. It worked, but I had to hit the Send and Close button a few times before it sent the image to the workspace. With the first click the waiting circle went around for some seconds then disappeared, which is what made me keep trying. Then suddenly PicToPainting closed and the image on my workspace had been painted. Not that I intend to use the older versions of PSP, but wanted to see if it worked in them and it seems to. Maybe if I had been more patient and just waited awhile longer it might have painted the image and closed with only the first click.

Please don't do that since Pic-to-Painting is only compatible with PSP2019 at this moment. The Pic-to-Painting is only passed the full testing on PSP2019. If you try to run it in the previous PSP version, you may encounter an unexpected issue that we cannot guarantee. Thank you for your understanding.

If that is true, josephlin, then why is Corel showing it in PSP2018 as available for $30.00? Are they purposely flogging a plugin to PSP2018 users that they know might cause unexpected issues? That sounds pretty unethical to me.

Thank you for raising this point. It's my misunderstanding and offered the wrong information in the previous post (I've removed it). The new Pic-to-Painting version is compatible with PSP2019 but other PSP versions as well now. But it still only can support WIN10 but not WIN8 or WIN7. I saw someone shared an alternative way to run on WIN7, to be honest, we don't recommend that method even if it can work sometimes.

If you read my posts above, you will see that I have WIN 8.1. I downloaded PicToPainting using the link on the PSP2019 64bit welcome page. It installed flawlessly, and it works flawlessly. It also installed itself in the correct plugins folders of PSP 20118, X9 and X7, and also works in my test with X7 on my Windows 8.1 machine. And it works without any of the workarounds (e.g., without installing any other Tensorflow versions) that have been posted.

Perhaps Corel doesn't provide support for the plugin on WIN8 or WIN7 operating systems using PicToPainting, but the plugin itself obviously does support my WIN 8.1 operating system.

And if Corel doesn't support the plugin on operating systems except for WIN10,, or if they believe that the plugin does not support other operating systems, then perhaps they should put a disclaimer on the page where they provide the link to purchase it for $30.00 USD.

This simply doesn't sound right to me.

If you are getting your information from the program's programmers, do they even know what they are talking about?

I have an easier way. It's just 3 modifications to the index.html. See caveat below.

Navigate to C:\Programs Files(86)\Pic to Painting\resources\app\app and open index.html with something like notepad.

On or about lines 30 through 51 you will find lines like: (I got rid of leading spaces)

Save and that's it for 1366*768.

Caveat: index.html will probably be owned by user System and you can't write over it. You need to take ownership.
Easy Fix: Make a copy (NOT move) somewhere else (like My Documents) and then move (NOT copy) it back to the original place. It will ask you for permission to overwrite. Reply yes.

It's version 1.1. And since I install from the Get More page inside PSP I don't know how big the installer is. Just uninstall the original, and then reinstall with the new download.

As for buying a new computer for it, I was looking at Luminar 3. Then found out it needed opengl 3.3 which my graphic card doesn't support so would have to get another graphic card to use it. I think I'll give that one a pass, at least for now.
