Hi! I'm new to VS 2018 -- I'm actually still on the trial version, deciding whether to buy -- but I'm having an issue with transitions that's honestly one of the few things standing between me and purchasing the program. I haven't edited much of anything in years, but I tried searching for the problem both on this board and on Google with no luck, and I've read several of the transition how-tos, so hopefully it's not something common or simple that I'm overlooking.
Whenever I add a transition between two clips, it seems to take the last few frames of the first clip (maybe a second's worth) and repeat them in the midst of the transition. It makes for a sloppy and glitchy-looking transition, and I can't figure out what's causing it. I've tried both crossfade and fade to black, and it's happened with both, and with multiple clips. What am I doing wrong?

How about a bit more information on your project.
How long in time are the clips on either side of the transition? How long is the transition?
What format are the clips?

I will add to canuck, does it happens with the sample clips also?

Re: Transitions Including Repeated Frames
Thanks for the questions, it definitely led to some more experimenting. As far as I can tell, it happens with clips of varying lengths -- I've tried it with some as short as 6 seconds and as long as 17 seconds. I've tried the standard one-second transition, as well as making them three seconds. When they're longer, it gets even weirder -- instead of looping the end of the first clip, it loops the first few frames where the transition starts, then the rest of the clip as it fades is fine. I also discovered that it's doing the same thing to the first few frames of the second clip, as well -- it just wasn't as noticeable on the clips I was looking at before. The clips are .mkv files, and it does appear to be happening to sample clips, too.
I'm not the most technically-minded person there is, so hopefully all that helped. Thanks for any assistance!

Re: Transitions Including Repeated Frames
I put two .mkv clips in the timeline of VS2018 and put a 3 second long crossfade transition across the ends -- then I created the video below while manually - so I could do it slowly - playing the transition. - I cannot see any problems with my test.
I was using the full version of VS2018 and it is just possible that the problem may be with the fact you are using the trial version - Corel trials are known to behave different than the full paid for version

Re: Transitions Including Repeated Frames
Hi
Something in the back of my mind tells me this has been raised before.
Not on my pc at the moment and using a tablet, a bit of a pain to use.
Maybe you can do a search of the forum
Not sure if there was a hot fix for using MKV clips.??
Are you able to provide a few samples, upload to a sharing site, gòglge etc. then provide a download link on your post
When you say it's happening to sample clips, are you referring to the library clips, cos that would be very strange
