No problem. I know others who do the same as me. It just requires that you create properly named/dated/etc folders for your images so that you can find them easily browsing with Computer. But you have to do that with Collections also, and I just find it easier to download (from my camera) and properly sort images into Windows folders right off the bat. And I really have never had the types of slowdowns others have described with PSP keeping track of their Collections database. But maybe I've just been lucky? :-)

I'm the original poster in this thread. The only thing I can think of at this point is that all my PSP lockups are caused by video adapter/driver problems. My video drivers are up to date, so maybe my problems are caused by the video cards themselves. Again, no other program including Affinity has a problem with my computer.

So my question for all of you. I have a dual monitor system that uses Intel HD Graphics 530 integrated video adapter and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 745. Is anyone here successfully using either of these video adapters?

Perhaps try first with just one monitor- go back to simplest settings and then slowly add the extra bells and whistles you like and see when the troubles atart.

Okay, I'll give it a shot. I removed the Nvidia video card today and reinstalled PSP 2019. We'll see...

Early on you mention that you have the 64-bit of 2019 installed.
Have you tried removing the 64-bit with the cleanup tool for 2019 and then installing both the 32-bit and the 64-bit?
I have read from quite a few people that installing the combination (which is recommended by Corel anyway) solves a lot of issues.
Before 2018 if you wanted to use older plugins you had to install 32-bit only. They wouldn't work with the combination. That problem is solved.
There seem to be files in both versions where one without the other can cause problems.

JoeB is right in that you shouldn't work with collections. Does slow down too much.

I've never intentionally used collections. Hopefully the program doesn't do that automatically. When I look in the Navigation panel now, there aren't any collections in the list.

I've also never used any plugins. If I'm ever successful at getting PSP to work, I'll investigate that. Am I correct that in assuming that installing both 64bit and 32bit is only important when using plugins?

I've ruled out dual monitor as the cause of this problem. I removed my second video card and the lockups still happen.

One interesting side note (maybe a clue). Every time I reinstall PSP, it works well for a day or two. Then the lockups start.

Just trying to see if PSP has stopped running when you get this lock up -

1. Right click the taskbar and open Task Manager
2. Click on the Performance tab and then at the bottom click on Resource Monitor.
3. If PSP is locking up then you should see its status as suspended

If not suspended then it may be something else that is taking up the processing.

In the program Click File > Preferences > Reset Preferences and tick only the box 'Delete all Cache Files' and see if it runs ok for a few days again.

BTW did you run it on a different computer and see if it worked there?

All of my listed versions Jasc PSP 8, Corel PSP X2 through to 2019 are running well on Windows 10 version 1803.

What antivirus and firewall are you running?

I am using free AVG , Free Zone Alarm, Free MalwareBytes and Free Spybot Search and destroy.
Because they are the free version they are very simple? and don't take over my computer . I have to manually do scans .
I have noted before that when a program is downloading an update or installing in the background I do get some slowdown which may seem like a lockup but once that is completed it reverts to normal running again.

Attached a screen shot below of the Resource Monitor screen.

I have not tried installing on a different computer. I don't suspect that there is any problem with the installer because I downloaded it again twice before reinstalling.

Running Windows 10 version 1803, fully updated.

My antivirus is Bitdefender. I just tried disabling that and that didn't help.

I'll try the Delete all Cache Files thing next.

The behavior of these lockups has changed a little. They still occur randomly, but now I can also reproduce them at will.

Pressing Ctl-Alt-Del brings up a menu with Switch User, Change Password, Task Manager etc. But now it also immediately causes PSP to lock up.

Does this give anyone any ideas on why PSP keeps locking up for me? See screenshot in previous post.
