Giving PSP another shot
I was never able to get PSP X9 to work so I left PSP and switched to Affinity. But the fact that I'm locked out of my PSPIMAGE files keeps nagging me. So I'm giving PSP another shot with PSP 2019. Just installed the trial. So far it's working. (only 8 hours in) Hoping for the best.
Backstory
X9 worked a little at first when I first installed it but gradually started locking up more and more. It got to the point where it wouldn't run at all. There was no problem with my PC. It was a stock nearly new Win 10 PC with lots of memory. Corel support couldn't figure out why it wouldn't work so I uninstalled and they gave me a refund. I thought I could fall back to X2, but that quit working too. I still have the old JASC version 7 which still works great to this day, but it is too old to open my PSPIMAGE files.

Thanks for this! I hesitantly came on the boards looking for reviews on 2019. I too had many issues with both X9 and 2018. I reverted back to X7 and use the Jasc 7 for graphics only. I'm seeing alot of positive posts about 2019 so I think I'll give it a shot

Re: Giving PSP another shot
My copy of PSP x9 works with no issues. If you have the installation materials, uninstall your current and install PSPx9 again. It's a great program.
Had PS3, PSP3; Installed: PSP-4.12, 5.03, 6.02, 7.04 (liked it a lot & used it for years), 8.00, XI, x4.3.0.3, x6.2.0.20, x7.4.0.11, x8.3.0.13, x9.2.0.7; now using PSPx10 (PSP 2018; version 20.2.0.1 x64) on Win 10-64 b2004.

Day two. It's already locking up. Not looking good for PSP 2019.

Uninstalled. The problem still remains in PSP 2019. It just keeps locking up.

Re: Giving PSP another shot
Can you describe this locking up? Does it actually go into a "not responding" mode? Or does it stop every 5 minutes and refuse to do anything for a while? What are you doing? What file sizes are working with? Are you using the 32-bit or 64-bit version?
Obviously if Corel support couldn't help, neither can I. But I am curious.

Re: Giving PSP another shot
It goes into a "not responding" mode. It doesn't matter how long you wait, it's locked up. 64 bit version. I don't have to be doing anything. Even if I just step away for a few minutes and come back, I find it locked up. The only images I worked on with the trial were jpgs, about 1.8 meg in file size, 2240 x 1344 pixels.
Windows is up to date, my video drivers are up do date. I don't think there is anything wrong with my PC. Affinity has no problem with it.
Appreciate your interest.

Re: Giving PSP another shot
It's not so much "wrong with your PC" as it is that PSP doesn't like your PC. I know of no one else who has this issue. Obviously you've uninstalled but I'm still curious. Does this happen without any images open? Or does an image have to be open first?
Have you tried turning off Auto-save?

Re: Giving PSP another shot
I just went back and read some of my previous posts when I was having the same problem with X9 and yes it would lock up even if I didn't have an image open. Didn't notice that problem with 2019 though. I didn't do anything with Auto-save. Is that off by default? None of the files I worked on were changed, I did do some Save-As.

Re: Giving PSP another shot
Auto save is on by default, set to 5 minutes I think. But it doesn't save over your image it simply saves a restore point in case the program closes.

Do you have many images on your hardrive ?.tlveik wrote:It goes into a "not responding" mode.
PSP feeds its database with your images. It may take time (the first time he access the folders) and I don't know if he is responding during that stage.

Re: Giving PSP another shot
Does it hunt the all drives and folders for images or does it just look in folders that I directly access? The folders I was using for the trial test had less than 10 images.

Re: Giving PSP another shot
psp 2019 should not be cataloging images unless you've specifically added the folder they are in to your collections. it used to do it automatically, focusing on the Pictures folder and a few other places. And you had to turn it off if you didn't want it. But now PSP should no longer be accessing and cataloging images at all unless you've specifically added them to the collections in Mange mode.

Can't be that then because I didn't do anything with collections.

Re: Giving PSP another shot
I'm not quite sure what you mean by that. But all I can say is that my reading of many other posts over the past couple of years indicates - not proves - that using Collections can slow down PSP. I don't use Collections at all - just Computer to browse the different image folders I create. And I don't see any slowdown using that.tlveik wrote:Can't be that then because I didn't do anything with collections.
