can we display the full filename and path in windows title ?

Post by Michael REMY »

hi,

i use PSP2018 pro.

is there a way to display again the full name of the file in the window title of each image ? (look my green arrow on the snapshot).
http://pichost.org/images/2018/08/18/Image1.jpg
Image
i check everywhere in the interface, there is no more any tips about the file extension format.

Also, a way to display the path will be great too.
i notice this need because in previous version, the fullname was displayed ! (psp x3)

Maybe i miss an option /preference enabled, shall you help me please ?

Best regards

Not sure if this is what you want but maybe File - Preferences - Manage and tick the box to show file name. Thats how I've got mine anyway

i checked this option but it did not display the EXTENSION like you.

fullpath will be super, but the extension is also what i need because when i open a file, there is no such information on psp panel !
i have to go into the menu and hit the information...

Michael - is the image in your example one that has already been saved or a new image that has yet to be saved?

on my example, you can see "1-24" which is the filename of the image i opened & edited.
but neither the extension nor the format is displayed at all.

in the second photo (taken from old psp) you can see the extension was added to the the displayed filename.

so, what is the problem with psp 2018 ?

Okay...so this might seem a little odd. Make filename extensions visible in Windows. If I am right about what you're seeing, that will only solve the extension thing, not the full path thing. At the very least it works on Windows 10 with PSP2019. :P

As far as I know, there is no setting for viewing the full path in the title bar though.

On my system, extension is visible in the titlebar.
It is perhaps a Windows setting. You need to enable the visibility of the file extension.

Full path is visible when you make Shift+I (but not in the title bar)

I first tried to duplicate the image name 1-24 shown in Michael's first post. I could not do it from within PSP. Tried renaming the one layer but that did not, as expected change the file name

I saved the file as 1-24.jpg and then renamed the file under windows explorer to 1-24 and got the error message about no extension may make the file unusable .

Loaded that image back into PSP and got Michaels result. Resaved that using Save as 1-25.jpg and the folder in windows explorer now showed :
1-24
1-25.jpg
and after repeating another save as
1-26.jpg

I closed all files in PSP and loaded these three files
they showed as
1-24, 1-25.jpg, 1-26.jpg - ie same as appearance in Windows explorer

In windows 7, I then went to the file explorer showing those three files just as in PSP.
Click on left Organise > Folder and search Options > View, and ticked the box 'Hide extension for known file types' and clicked Apply
Back in windows explorer they now appeared as

1-24, 1-25, 1-26 with no extension shown
I then loaded all three files into PSP and they again showed without the extension.

Removed all files from PSP , went back and undid the Hide file extensions.

Solution - in Windows explorer rename 1-24 as 1-24.jpg (or whatever file type it was supposed to be).

PSP reflects what is seen in Windows explorer and all of this applies even if you use .pspimage files.

i am misunderstood.
my file have already an extension (i can see it in my windows explorer when i active the windows option to show all extension, but i choose to hide the knewn ones).
The problem does not come from the save methode at all.

the problem is just that psp2018 only display the name part of the file, not anymore the extension part.
this is a problem because when i work on several picture of different formats (tiff, gif, png, jpeg) in the same workspace, i have no clue to determine the file format ( so the extension) until i go back in the windows explorer.
so i have to do "SHIFT+1" , but it is a windows dialog i will close : too many clicks !

The right bottom information in the psp statut bar should really display the format/extension too !

As I said Michael PSP reflects (mirrors) what you see in File explorer.
If you choose to hide the extensions then they are hidden in PSP. If you choose to to show the extensions then they are shown in PSP.
Some other programs do not do this but PSP does. If you would like that changed because of your preference then you should put it in the wishlist for the next version of PSP.
I prefer to have the extensions shown as I like to know what I am doing if two files are the same name and one is an exe file then I need to know that I avoid clicking on that unless I intend to run that application.

As you can see PSP2018 does in fact show file types.
click for larger view
click for larger view
You can prove to yourself what LeviFiction and others have stated by making the change to Windows Explorer and then launching PSP and loading some images.

PSP relies on Windows engine.

because the extension is already displayed in the icon ! so, i don't need to extend the column by adding duplicate information !

If I understand, when you have a JPG, your rename the file FILENAME.JPG.jpg
You select to not display the extension in Windows.
The file displays as FILENAME.JPG
I'm correct ?
PS : what do you mean by "extend the columns" ?
