Creating iPhone Wallpaper?
Is it possible to use PSP 2018 to create wallpaper for iPhone?
I don't have an iPhone, but I've been asked to create wallpapers with a business logo that can offered for download on a company website. Is it a .gif image? I am aware that different models would need different sizes, but I am not sure how to set my New Image.
For example, based on my research so far:
iPhone SE : 1136 x 640 resolution; 16:9 aspect ratio
iPhone 6s/7/8 : 1334 x 750 resolution; 16:9 aspect ratio
iPhone 6s Plus/7 Plus/8 Plus: 1920 x 1080 resolution; 16:9 aspect ratio
iPhone X : 2436 x 1125 resolution; 16:9 aspect ratio
As a hobbyist/volunteer I usually work in pixels with a resolution of 200, so changing settings, other than Height and Width, is not something I do often. Any advice you can give would be great.

Work at the maximum size.
Resize for each format.
Work in vector if possible for maintaining quality at different sizes.

Re: Creating iPhone Wallpaper?
Thank you. Questions for clarification:
1. I can set resolution to one number which will be the highest available that I see (2540.00?). Are the two numbers in the examples given above for "resolution" the image size in pixels?
2. I can set "Image Characteristics" to Vector Background, however my images to use for this are already in .png format. Do I need to convert them, and if so how -- just by simply adding them as a "Vector Layer"?
3. Where will I see the 16:9 aspect ratio in image settings?
4. Should I save the final draft as .gif, .jpg or .png?

Re: Creating iPhone Wallpaper?
Your post is using the term "resolution" in two different ways. You say you work with images at a resolution of 200. That would be print resolution of 200 PPI (Pixels Per Inch). The sizes given for the different iPhones are speaking of pixel resolution, or the quality of reproduction of the image on the screens for each of the different iPhones.Linda Lou wrote:Is it possible to use PSP 2018 to create wallpaper for iPhone?

Make your image 2436 x 1125 pixels, and don't bother changing the PPI resolution you always work with. That only applies to printing an image.
HOWEVER! Aspect ratio is the ratio of the height to the width of the image. A 16:9 aspect ratio is 1.777 to 1. For example, the pixel size for the third phone on your list is 1920 x 1080. If you divide 1920 by 1080 you will get 1.777, which shows you that an image with those pixel sizes has a 16:9 aspect ratio. BUT the pixel sizes for the last phone on your list do NOT show an aspect ratio of 16:9. If you divide 2436 by 1125 pixels you get 2.165 to 1. That's because the iPhone X has an aspect ratio of 19.5:9, not 16:9. That's because the iPhone X, like the Samsung Galaxy S8, is somewhat taller with respect to its width than previous phones, so the image has to be a bit larger from top to bottom (in portrait mode) compared to the width.
Because you're doing wallpapers the image can be saved in .png format unless they specify otherwise, because PNG is lossless. When Jean-Luc suggests you work in vector format he is just suggesting that if the objects and text (if any) that will be part of your wallpaper can be drawn/rendered using the vector objects and vector text in PSP then you should use them rather than raster objects that can show jaggies or other degradation when resized. But if you're already starting with regular raster images then that's what you'll have to work with.

Re: Creating iPhone Wallpaper?
If you do a search for wallpapers for iPhone Se you will get a number of results likewise for iPhone X.
One for the X was:
https://unsplash.com/collections/146647 ... wallpapers
and as you will see if you download a couple , they are jpgs and have different dimensions and aspect ratios and about 4000KB in size.
eg the aerial shot of roadway and ocean by benjamin-gremler- is 3078 x 5472 pixels while the cityscape by andre-benz- is 4480 x 6720 pixels which is quite different from your requested 2436 x 1125 pixels.
Your quoted dimensions (misnamed resolution) is for a landscape oriented picture while the images for the various iphones are portrait oriented.
You will need to ask the client if they want landscape, portrait or both.
Do you have to prepare the logo or will they provide one and you will also need to know if the logos colors can be changed otherwise they may blend in with some images backgrounds and not be visible.
Also enquire about copyright and licencing conditions. Are they for exclusive use of the client so that you can never use those images again (in effect sale of copyright) or a time limited licence to use .
Here is what I would do assuming portrait and landscape images, and I prepare logo and images for SE.
1. Obtain an image whose dimensions are larger in both directions than the maximum dimensions of your wallpaper images . So in the case of your wallpapers the maximum dimension is for the iPhone X of 2436 x 1125 pixels. So choose images that are at least 2600 pixels in width and height. This will allow some cropping to suit the sizes.
In my example I have chosen one of the Nature Backgrounds provided with an earlier version of Paintshop pro as an extra. It is CGS33214 and is 3474 x 3500 pixels so exceeds the 2600 limit in both dimensions. 2. Now I would prepare 4 folders on my desktop labelled iphone SE, iPhone 6s7s, iphone plus, iphone X and place copies of all the images I want to use in each folder. That way I can drag and drop the images from each folder into the workspace and save them back to their respective folders.
3. Prepare the logo which may be text or a small image. Make sure that it is the right size so that it will be visible and have it on a transparent background and save as a png. Do one suitable for light background and one suitable for dark background. You could also convert this to a picture tube so that it is easily scaled for the different size phone screens.
4. Load your first SE image (each image will need to be cropped individually so there will be some work here.) Set up a crop rectangle 1136 x 640 and have Maintain Aspect ratio ticked. Save that as a preset eg SE Landscape 1136 x 640. You can also do one for portrait although it is easy enough to just flip the crop rectangle . 5. Now using the landscape crop, drag your crop rectangle to maximise or obtain the best landscape crop. Select the Crop as New image button. Reduce the size of the crop rectangle and flip the crop rectangle, arrange for best portrait image and again crop as new image. As you can see the image dimensions are much larger than required. You can resize to correct dimensions individually or do a batch resize on that folder using a script to resize longest size to 1136 pixels. 5. You can add the logo before you do the resize in which case you will need to change the scaling each time to suit your crop OR add the logo when are all the same dimensions when the logo will not need resizing
I have added a logo to show how a light and dark version help it to stand out. Hope that helps.

Re: Creating iPhone Wallpaper?
Yes! Yes, these replies help tremendously. @JoeB, thank you for clearing up my confusion regarding what was called "resolution". @hartpaul I appreciate your detailed steps. I'm going to print them in case I need them again in the future.
To answer questions:
The client sent me their logos and images. They own the copyrights and have given me permission to use them. I have already done some work for them using the same images, so these would just need to be converted to fit iPhone screens.
Converting the logo image to a picture tube is a great idea! (I manually resized them to fit each image that I created for them in the last project.) These posts are fantastic and are so helpful that Corel should give you all an award.

Re: Creating iPhone Wallpaper?
Thanks Linda Lou. Sorry for misunderstanding but my query about copyright referred to your images not the logo. In otherwords if you useone of your images for that client do they then own the copy right? Is sale of copyright in your own images included. Or are the conditions such that you exclusively license your images to them for a particular period of time - 2 years, 4 years,99 years. Is it a worldwide licence or a particular country. Plenty of things to check out in their formal agreement or contract.

Re: Creating iPhone Wallpaper?
I am using the company's copyrighted images and logos with permission and providing my resizing of those (to fit various devices) on a volunteer basis. I had to move the logo around to conform, but that was approved.
In this case, none of the original images are mine. The finished products offered by the company will be free for their employees and customers. All is well.
Thank you for the help.

I don't know if anyone has said this yet but .png will be the best format. .gif has a limited pallet of 256 colours.
