Videostudio 2018 constantly crashing when in Sound Mixer

I am having trouble with VS 2018 when I am in the sound mixer tab and I am trimming video clips and then playing the project from time to time to see how the audio video sync looks like.

After a few trim operations the whole program is crashing when I hit the play button. Exactly in the moment when I hit the play button.

I am running version 21.3.0.141

Seems to be a feature in this version - I experience similar things, but for me crashing is not limited to hitting play - but occurs most often there.
I got the impression that this happens when VS is still doing "something" in the background and then a new operation is started.
The exception code indicates a heap corruption - which could be some bad implemented background task operation ...

Can you give more details as the type of video clips you are working with.

Better still to provide a sample or two, you would have to upload to a sharing site, google drive etc.

I have tried using my own MTS video files with the Sound Mixer, cutting, moving playing in both Clip and Project mode, no crashes………….

I have also tried editing the libraries audio clips again using the sound mixer.

These are video clips from a GoPro hero 5. Just the straight out of the camera files.

Are you able to upload a few samples to a sharing site, then we can test the files to see if we can replicate the problem

otherwise please re-install the program to see if that improves things?

Hi Trevor,

I reinstalled the application and I found out what is causing the crashes. It is the option "Enable hardware acceleration optimization" in the performance preferences. Since I disabled it it runs without these crashes. Somehow this option must mess with the sound mixer (or the windows drivers).

I am running VS 2018 on a Suface Pro 2017 with a plain original Windows installation and drivers as the Surface comes.

I have experienced this also with Realtek ALC892 sound card. I found Windows 10 used its own drivers, so I disabled them and installed the Realtek ones, the sound mixer crashing kept happening until I also disabled all hardware optimisation. For now that seems to have solved the problem. Just turning off optimisation for performance was not enough
