Hello,
I was a die hard JASC paint shop pro user for years. I kept using PSP 9 until windows just wont work with it any more and running VM's was getting old.
So I saw that corel decided to go back to the jasc style of PSP with 2018. I purchased 2018 like 25 days ago and now 2019 is out..
I upgraded to 2019 today and decided to go deeper into it and compare with PSP 9 from jasc.
One thing i noticed is that i am unable to easily select colors for creating new gradients.
When i click on a gradient color to change, it opens up the color picker and i have to either remember html codes or eyeball the colors to choose.
In paint shop pro 9 it allowed me to pick from the color picker OR use the dropper tool on the image to pick colors.
The dropper tool icon only appears over the color picker wheel, i cant use it on the image. I think this should be changed.

blakehaas, everything you want I think is already built in.
If you hover over the "User:" color swatch when editing your gradient you can hold CTRL and it'll change to a color dropper and let you select from anywhere on your screen.
If you click on that swatch it opens the color picker, but while the color picker is open you can still hover over the image and sample colors from the currently open image. So you're not forced to use the color wheel or remember HTML settings. You can also use sliders, or premade swatches. Which I love. Because I work with swatches to make my image's color palette. So being able to create a gradient that follow that palette is awesome.
Here is a quick video demonstrating these different methods: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1NXhYDi ... p-i8R/view

And if you go to File > Preferences > General Program Preferences > Palettes and under Materials Palette near the bottom check the box for Use classic Materials Palette you can have it look and behave just like Jasc PSP 8 and 9. Note that you will not be able to use the color picker .
Systems available Win7, Win 8.1,Win 10 Version 1607 Build 14393.2007 & version 20H2 Build 19042.867
