Faster loading times

Post by Crivens »

After upgrading to PSP 2018, it still takes a while to load up. I'm on an i7 with 16gb RAM, and an SSD HD, so it shouldn't be too bad, especially since other meaty apps are a lot quicker. Don't get me wrong, it's only normally like 10-15 secs or so, and it's straight into edit mode, but I then kill off the window, forgetting I need to open another image, another 10-15+ secs for PSP to load up.. Repeat etc. Gets annoying fast. And I want PSP to be my default image viewer rather than say Paint.

Considering images load pretty much immediately into PSP if it's already running, I was wondering if there is a setting to allow PSP to stay in the background? So you kill the PSP window, but it stays in the system tray. Similar to how programs like Skype do it.

I'm a big hater of unnecessary icons in the taskbar (ie. never completely closing PSP, but only minimising it when done with an image), but am fine with the small icons on the right hand side, especially as they can be hidden.

So can it be done? Either through an option, or through some 3rd party app?

I think that its the problem of PSP2018 'cause they erase all your Thumbnails each time you open PSP and if you have minimise your PSP in the Organiser he make a bank of thumbnails when PSP is open so it take a lot oc resource at this time . Hope the 2019 is corrected like old version

At the end of the day though I'm not bothered about the initial loading time. As long as it doesn't actually kill itself off when you hit the close button (like Skype for example). That way any new images you open in Explorer will open pretty much instantly in PSP. Ok it uses more RAM to keep PSP loaded, but who cares these days? I've got 16gb to burn (even with a VM, VS2018, and a bundle of other apps open, I have loads of memory left over). Make it an option and everyone is happy. Or make an option where the minimise button minimises PSP to the small icons in the system tray (where it can be hidden). Not as good, but same result, and you don't have PSP open all the time in the main taskbar. Which I personally find annoying when I'm trying to minimise the amount of apps that show there (I have a fair few open at once for my job, but even so I like it less cluttered as possible).
