Hi
Tried the support ticket but after a week of submitting computer specs and updating drivers for the video card back to Corel (which seemed in truth totally nothing to do with the program or the question) - I am still struggling to achieve something I think is really basic.
Everything I need to do needs to be 1024 x 768 resolution - the industry standard XGA size - and saved/rendered as an Mp4 at 1024 x 768
I cannot see where I can set this up either inside the program before I start work - or if I start work anyway (in desperation) I can't seem to render at that resolution,
I'd sort of understand if I was trying some weird format but it is just old fashioned 4:3 ratio 1024 x 768 XGA Mp4
Any help would be appreciated by any users who know - thank you in advance
I am using X10 - and have also downloaded 2018 just to see if that was better but appears the same hurdle for me
Set up and render at 1024 x 768 4:3 Mp4 - How? Please!

Re: Set up and render at 1024 x 768 4:3 Mp4 - How? Please!
Hi
As far as I know video studio will not render to 1024 x 768 Mpeg4
In the past many videos using 4:3 would use 720 x 576 ( that’s for pal) but the video was anamorphic stretching the pixels to create the 4:3 shape.
1024 x 768 is true 4:3 (square pixels)
Somethings to try
Go to F6 Preferences, make sure Show Messages when inserting…. Is ticked
Start a new project
Add your1024 x 768 to the top timeline, do you receive a message to match the video file.
If you see this choose ok / yes.
Now go to Share
Top left for Same as Project Settings, place a tick there, change the option to Same as First Clip.
Render the project, what video did it create.
Next option
Set the Project Properties to use Mpeg4 – 4:3 aspect using
MPEG-4 Files
24 bits, 1280 x 960, 30 fps
Frame-based
H.264 Main Profile Video: 2000 Kbps, 4:3
48000 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo
MPEG AAC Audio: 192 Kbps
Add your video to the timeline
Share – Same as project settings will render to 4:3
Yes this will use a higher frame size hopefully retaining the original quality
If you rendered to Mov which was the forerunner of Mpeg4 then the program will allow for user defined frame sizes, so we can set 1024 x 768
QuickTime Movie Files
24 bits, 1024 x 768, 30 fps
Frame-based
H.264
50% Quality, 24 Key Frame Rate
None, 48.000 KHz, 16 bits, Stereo
If the above does not improve things, can you provide a sample of your video
An original sample direct from camera and not one created by video conversion software.

Thank you Trevor in advance - I'm going to try now and will report back but really appreciate you taking the time out for such a comprehensive "some things to try" listing

Hi Trevor
Well, the first solution does the job - basically we bluff the program with an existing "dummy" video loaded first, then do the job and render/share. It works a dream at 960 x 720 (which is still true 4.3) which is close enough for what I am doing now as the playout program will auto size (which is fine, just not when it is out of ratio)
The "swine" is the projects I've been working on whilst trying to sort - it's not "backwards" friendly! But all except a bit of lip syncing, that work is quick to copy
I can only thank you - far far better than any tech support on this - I am still amazed that budget projectors default to XGA (1024 x 768) and video cards can easily output that, but no "movie" standard uses it - for corporate presentations, someone is missing a trick.
Thank you again - truly appreciated, have yourself a great day.

From 2018 do you mean Save As and choosing X10, then that does not open in X10.
do
from 2018 Save as select x9
now try to open that in X10

Re: Set up and render at 1024 x 768 4:3 Mp4 - How? Please!
Hi Trevor
Not quite ... while I've been waiting for a solution for Creol's support, I carried on doing a few projects without rendering them, thinking (unwisely) that when the solution eventually comes, I could just reset properties and a bit of jiggling on resizing etc and then render. But as I need to start the project by inserting a "dummy" video at the resolution I need, I can't do that retrospectively on a project I've started in the "wrong" resolution.
Your first solution is brilliant for everything going forward - I'm just re-doing some "saved" work from scratch - but I can be guided and copy from the original project - most of it is simple but some is lyp synced to music tracks at differing speeds so a lot of time/laspe and chopping up happened!
On most of the existing work, I think I will render at the old "best bet" resolution and just bring in that video to a new "tricked" blank project and see if I can get away with just a bit of stretch and squeeze - I think I may get away with that.
But going forward - you have solved my issue - you have my sincere thanks
