Short comment.
MS Photo Story does terrific pan over tletter image
ps.jpg
Rendered to FHD WMV.

**PS limit is 7200X7200 so I had to crop it a bit before import.

Thanks for the idea but unfortunately as noted, Photo Story 3 does not support a picture of more than 7200 x 7200 pixels. This restriction would result in the loss of 15% of the 8504x2160 panoramic photograph that I'm trying to use. In addition, PS3 does not support 4K output which is a requirement.

Unfortunately this approach will not result in a smooth pan across the scene which defeats the purpose of a panoramic photo.

Too bad that VS doesn't properly handle panoramic photos and hasn't since at least X6.

Yes thanks, I did look at them but they played jerkily on my system and both were degraded in quality compared to the source file. In addition, neither was 4K which is the output that is the requirement. I can render a 4K output using either P&Z or Custom Motion but the quality is severely degraded compared to the source. It appears that VS can't properly handle panoramic photos and hasn't since at least X6.

All that I see is another video on YouTube that's only a max of 720p so I've no idea what your point is. If it was 4K as is being discussed then it'd be on point.

A few words might help understand your point.

Thanks,

Interesting that your post with a subject of "Thanks for the Photo Story tip - here is my 1st effort" was appended to the thread entitled "pan an image larger than the video dimensions ?"

Congrats on your 1st effort on YouTube.

You are easily interested. I don't find it interesting, just informative.

was appended to the thread entitled "pan an image larger than the video dimensions ?

Taking that original subject, my post was on point
. Microsoft Photo Story allows you to "pan an image larger than the video dimensions"."

Congrats on your 1st effort on YouTube. Thanks, you made my day. I await your effort.

I did not find it informative at all just confusing. Changing the "subject" in the middle of a thread is a bad idea.

Everyone confused by the subject title herein....

Post by mangurian »

please raise your hand.

Apparently, "Thanks for the Photo Story tip - here is my 1st effort" is confusing/annoying to some as a post reply subject.

I feel I should break it down. Earlier in the thread, someone posted Microsoft's Photo Story as an app that permits panning and zooming across very large images with no loss in quality. I tried Photo Story and like it.

Therefore, my subject starts: "Thanks for the Photo Story tip.."

Many find it useful to see a sample result from an app in order to help them assess its possible usefulness. (That is why vendors include screenshots and videos. - clever eh? )

Therefore my subject line ends: "...here is my 1st effort."

If anyone is still confused, please post and let me know, so additional help can be rendered.

That's well known and can also be done in VS.

Openshot (freeware NLE video editor) can take this 8504x2160 panoramic photo and easily produce the expected high quality 4K video as output (see https://youtu.be/ZO6DqxrlR3c). It's hard to understand why VS can't do this but it can't since at least X6.

In any event, I'd suggest trying Openshot if you want to produce a video clip using P&Z on a large panoramic photo. Also since Openshot is a full featured NLE video editor, it may be able to overcome other shortcomings in VS.

I tested Openshot more than a year ago. and found other things I didn't like.
Why didn't you cropped the upper blue band from the pan?
