Help with Color Changer

Post by pixelblu »

Hello -
I'm trying to do a very basic color change using PSP 2018 on a graphic that has straight lines and solid color . When I make the change there is always a very fine border around the edges of the underlying (previous) color. I've made sure the palette has both the foreground/background and stroke selected with the same color but can't seem to get it to fill out to the edges. I've also trying playing with the tolerance but it has no affect of the edges. If anyone has any suggestions on what I might try I would appreciate it.

Thanks

Without seeing the image it's difficult to say...

But you might be better adjusting the colour from the colour wheel adjust - colour or something like that. Or hue to target.

Thanks for the suggestion...I just tried using "Adjust -> Hue and Saturation -> Colorize" and that seems to work better but still has some bleed through on the borders

I was actually thinking of the Hue/Saturation/Lightness above Colorize.

Would probably help to see it.

You could try:

http://vicanek.de/imageprocessing/colorreplacer.htm

I find that a lot easier than the PSP version :-)

Could you post a crop of your image ?
It is difficult to give a correct suggestion without seeing the problem.

Sorry for the delay in getting this posted but here's a before sample (blue) and the color change to a dark grey...you should be able to see the blue border bleed.

You could also use the Chromatic Aberration Removal tool found under the <Adjust> pull down menu. Desaturation works very good if you change a color to black or grey. Chromatic Aberration Removal works no matter what color you change to.

I tried the Chromatic Aberration Tool but can't get it to work. Selecting the color to remove does nothing with the "Preview on Image" checked or in the "After" window. I looked through the instructions in the user guide and it doesn't look like I'm missing anything.

Once you've made your selection, go to the Selection menu and use Modify - Expand. Start with 1 pixel and increase if necessary until you can flood fill with no outline color showing. You could also play with Modify - Inside/Outside Feather and select outside and manipulate the number of pixels as needed.

Pixelblu, you need to create or Choose a sample entry from the List of Samples area. Look in the Help section for "Chromatic Aberration Removal", there you'll find detailed instructions.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions... I think I found a solution. After making the selection and using flood fill, I needed to be sure the "Match Mode" was set to "All Opaque". Blue bleed on the edges are gone :)

An error is displayed in the settings window. The text says "click on the color" but clicking does nothing. You need to draw a selection, like attached, and it works.
