How do you make multiple versions of one video?
I want to make a video that is full length, also medium length and a one minute version....all of the same video. How would I go about doing that without messing up the first version?
I edited a normal speed/length video, but of the same video, I want to make different sizes for 3 different platforms, like, facebook, youtube and instagram. Do I save the first version with one name and then the next version with a different name, etc.?

Your original video is perfectly safe, no matter what you do within VS, the original will always remain intact, when you import into VS, it is only a data link to the video, unless of course the video has been created with VS, then you will need to save each version with different names

Re: How do you make multiple versions of one video?
First - - "Save" - creates a .vsp of your original - never changed by the system
from then on - - "Save As" - creates a new .vsp of the changes you have made without affecting the original - once you have a new .vsp you can just save that as work is in progress
keep using "Save as" to make as many variants of the original as you wish - without changing the original

Re: How do you make multiple versions of one video?
Thank you all for your information!!!!! It's exactly what I needed to know. I just didn't want to ruin a video by not saving different versions of it. So I take it they all get saved as different projects with different file names. I get it now. Thanks again, all !!!

Re: How do you make multiple versions of one video?
The vsp files are only text files and quite small. They tell Video Studio what video is in a project, where it is located, and what editing has been done to it. They contain no actual video themselves, and because they are small you can make a large number of them without badly affecting your computer storage space.

Re: How do you make multiple versions of one video?
That's interesting to know, Ken. Somehow that seems really strange that that can happen. It would be nice if they can be uploaded online, but i'm sure they can't. I think that's why I'm getting confused with that because no other programs I know of works that way....except for maybe other video programs.

Well of course your final video can be uploaded online -- but if you mean your project and the work involved with it then creating a Smart Package ( File >> Smart Package) is the way to do it - a folder is created using everything contained in the project - which you can then upload to your online storage etc.

Re: How do you make multiple versions of one video?
Many programs work this way. For example a browser, like Firefox, Safari, etc, composes the webpage you see by assembling numerous pieces from all over the internet. If you were to save a webpage you will see al kinds of companion files. Many Photo editors store changes made in companion files or catalogs, leaving the original Photo file untouched.rkstudio wrote:... because no other programs I know of works that way....except for maybe other video programs.

Hi Brian. I was referring to the VSP files, that it's too bad those files can't be uploaded online. I think they would take about a nano second to upload.

I see what you mean, Al ....I guess photoshop works that way too, because you save a PSD file which is the original file, the edit it then usually save it as a jpg or other.aljimenez wrote:Many programs work this way. Re: How do you make multiple versions of one video?
I don't understand why you would want to upload a VSP files. It would not be of any use whatsoever. Perhaps there is confusion regarding your use of the term "upload". For most people upload means transferring files from your computer to a website or to the cloud. Transferring a file from your computer to a program you are running is called "loading". For example, adding a video file to the video track in VS.rkstudio wrote:BrianCee wrote:Well of course your final video can be uploaded online -- but if you mean your project and the work involved with it then creating a Smart Package ( File >> Smart Package) is the way to do it - a folder is created using everything contained in the project - which you can then upload to your online storage etc.

I haven't used it yet. I'm not sure why yet, I would need to contain everything in the project because once I upload the video, I did what I wanted to do. If you don't mind, can you tell me why I would want to save everything in a project in a folder? I don't know the advantage to that.
There is a big advantage to putting all your project source files into one folder especially of your original source files are spread all over your system and on various hard or USB drives. Everytime you would want to make an edit change to your project you would have to make sure all your source devices are connected to your computer otherwise you will get link errors. If all source files are in one location you don't get that error.

Re: How do you make multiple versions of one video?
but why do you think you cannot upload your .vsp files to a cloud or external HDD rkstudio ? - they are computer files just like all the others on your computer and can be saved - or copied to any location you wish - - BUT BUT BUT - as has already been explained to you they are no good on their own - they need to access all the files on your computer to rebuild your project in the timeline so if you have removed or deleted some of the content of the final video it will not rebuild - which is where the Smart Package comes in - it collects all the files used - including the vsp together in one folder which you can then save for use on any computer in the future
because as has already been explained to you above the .vsp file does not contain any videos - it is just a text file telling VS what bits of video to use and without the clips as well the vsp file is useless to anybody except the computer which made it - and then only inside Videostudio

Hi
I think there may be some confusion here, rkstudio may be talking about uploading a VSP to the internet for others to view as a video.
Clearly that is not possible.
