I have Corel PSP 2018 and have been trying to save a shape as a "Preset Shape" and PSP is doing some strange things when it saves.
> I use the Rectangle tool to create a rectangle on an open photo and PSP creates a Vector layer with the rectangle on it.
> Then I select the rectangle and use Object Properties to give it a stroke width and no fill.
> Then I create some text (PSP creates a text layer in a layer group with the vector layer) and using Object Properties I give the text 0 stroke width and a colored fill.
> Then I align the text inside the rectangle and convert the text to curves.
> Then group the converted text and the rectangle into a Layer Group.
> Then I select the layer group and use "File > Export > Shape" and give it a name in the popup window.
The Problems:
> Now when I select the Preset Shape Tool, the shape is named "Group 1", and not the name that I gave it.
> When I draw the shape, it has solid fill in the rectangle and I don't see the text.
> When I open Object Properties, the name shows "Group 1", has Stroke unchecked with 0 stroke width, and a solid fill.
> If I uncheck Fill and check Stroke and give it a width, I will see the outline of the rectangle and also the outline of the text, but the text is not filled.
So I am trying to create and save a Preset Shape that has an outline for the rectangle with no fill; and text inside the rectangle with fill but no outline. Can this be done?
Also don't know why it doesn't take the name that I give for the group in the popup window before it saves it as a Preset Shape.
Thanks for any suggestions.
Don

Re: Trying to create a Preset Shape but having problems
Don, I had similar difficulties in creating and saving a Preset Shape, particularly when it came to naming my new shape. I settled for a less than perfect results, but, when I read your question, I turned to Google and found this excellent tutorial on the topic:

I know the extremely competent participants on this board would soon give you the info that would guide you, but for now see if the above tut will help!

Thanks for responding Gini.
I will check out the tutorial when I get a little time, and then let you know.

Hi Gini, I checked out the tut and it does explain the proper way to group and name layers that you will use for a Preset Shape. So that was helpful.LostNow wrote:Don, I had similar difficulties in creating and saving a Preset Shape, particularly when it came to naming my new shape. Although it did not address my specific problem of trying to combine a vector image having a Fill and no Outline (stroke), with another vector image having no Fill and an Outline.
My Google search found this page:
https://www.graphicxtras.com/products/pspshap.htm
It has a pretty good selection of PSP Preset Shapes that are sold by Category groups of 100 downloadable shapes per group for $3.49.
A pretty good deal when you consider the time it takes to create a single shape.
Click on the "gallery" link to view the 100 shapes for a specific category.
(I checked the Zip file after the download for malware and it was clean.)
I bought one group that had a shape that I made node modifications to and was able to use it.
The node editing on the shape was somewhat complex, so there is much more than I currently understand about creating "nodes and lines" in order to make a complex shape.
Thanks again
Don
