Corel VideoStudio X10.5.0.60 (64bit Pro)
Hello folks, I have issues using my project file.
1. In my opinion, saving a project to a file (.VSP) is for convenience, that is, I believe so I can start from where I had stopped.
When I open the VSP file, the app opens to the "Welcome" tab instead to the "EDIT" tab:
2. When I open the VSP file I always got the error to "Relink" or "Skip" or "Cancel", and only the latter option works. This defeats the purpose of having a VSP file.
3. The MP4 video file the VSP could not find, exists in the correct folder. Though the file has a bracket in it's name ( [ ] ). Only one file has this error.
4. After changing the default folders in the "Preference" setting, still the same.

Re: Using A Project File (VSP) Issue
1. yes you are correct saving a .vsp should allow you to close and open the project at will - - - have you changed the startup page in "preferences" as shown in my attached image
2. the fact that 'Relink' does not work suggests that VS does not recognise your missing file at all
3 Why have you put square brackets in a file name - no need for brackets in a file name - in fact I didn't think you could use some symbols at all in file names - have you tried removing those brackets - replace them with hyphens or underscores - does that solve your problem ?
4 changing folders will not make any difference if it is the files that VS does not like - change that odd file name

Re: Using A Project File (VSP) Issue
Hi
A quick note on Re-linking
When we add a clip to the library or timeline what we see is a virtual clip, that clip being linked to the file on our hard drive.
Remove, rename or change the files location will cause a relink request.
At the top of the relink panel indicates the last known location / name, you should navigate to the correct file to relink.
Saving your files on an external drive can cause some issues, especially if that drive changes its letter when re-starting, as does memory sticks.
If all clips need re-linking then the first clip will be targeted, all other clips if in the same folder will then be re-linked.
I guess the question is where are your files located?
There have been some instances where relinking has not worked associated with a corrupt project file, more often it’s the files location that is the problem.
To run / open a VSP project file, I generally open Video Studio then File to open project, from File - at the bottom of the list you will see the last four used projects, a quick start option.

Yep, the Preference settings were in the"Welcome Book" settings. Changed it to the "Edit" mode and all is well.
2. the fact that 'Relink' does not work suggests that VS does not recognise your missing file at all
It will not recognize the file even after changing it's name a few times. I even created a folder and path as shown in the error, on a USB flash drive with name as shown in the error box, still VS won't take it.
3 Why have you put square brackets in a file name - no need for brackets in a file name - in fact I didn't think you could use some symbols at all in file names - have you tried removing those brackets - replace them with hyphens or underscores - does that solve your problem ?
The square brackets were from the old file. I had removed them since I don't like using them. I use AutoCad extensively and it does not feel too friendly with such characters also.
4 changing folders will not make any difference if it is the files that VS does not like - change that odd file name
As mentioned in #2, in this case, it did not help.

That particular file WILL NOT relink, even after creating a folder in a USB Flash drive with the correct drive letter.
I guess the question is where are your files located?
This is what may have happened. During the project, I kept on backing up the files to a USB flash drive with the drive letter seen in the error window. I may have selected from the USB Flash Drive by mistake and kept on working. This will be the only logical reason. I use SyncToy to backup the file at certain stages since I do not want to lose anything. I was creating a funeral photo/video slide show for a friend and don't want to lose anything.

Every one of the project file will not relink the culprit file
The MP4 'missing' file will not relink no matter what name I gave it, nothing I did worked, so, I tried something else.
I placed a small video file in front of the unlinked file in the timeline, removed the 'missing file' then insert the 'missing file' converted to AVI. Sure I could have chosen another file type.
Then I removed the place-holder-video-file. Next, I saved the project to a new name, closed the project and re-opened it. Voila, it worked like a charm. The new project name opened VS to the Edit tab and the project, like when I saved it last.
All advice and learning noted. I surely appreciate all your help. Thank you folks and enjoy the summer wherever you might be. Here in Anchorage, Alaska, it's been nice.
Cheers all!

Re: Using A Project File (VSP) Issue
Hi
It does appear that the actual file is corrupt, or using a codec that VS does not recognise, did you say that you were able to use the file / clip. In an earlier project?
When the clip needs a re-link does the program actually show the re-link panel or does the clip on the timeline simply show as black and white?
