Hello,
this is may first posting. I am using videostudio ultimate 2018. I want to use the pan and zoom effect for videos. I did some 4k/29.97fps recordings with my smartphone (iphone SE), which run very smooth. Now I want to use the pan and zoom effect and reencode it to fhd. The result is not convincing. The pan and zoom effekt stutters sometimes. I have also tested it with a photo. Same problem.
My working sequence:
- Record 4k video with iphone 4s -> video runs smooth
- Reencode the 4k *.mov file to a 4k *.wmv (videostudio shows some problems with some effects and *.mov) -> video runs smooth
- Do the pan and zoom in videostudio 2018 and export it as h.265-High/FHD/29.97fps -> video stutters
Is the a recommendation for the rate of change of the pan and zoom effekt (e.g. max 10% zooming in 5s or something similar)?
Thanks a lot and best regards.
Michael

Hello, I did some more tests. The problem seems to be the player. Using "Windows Media Player" or "Media Player Classic x64" the video stutters. Playing the video with windows 10 photos app the video runs much smoother. Is this a known problem?

Hi Michael
Yes some media players will suffer with playback.
VLC Media player seems to play most things.
You seem to be converting the video through several different formats, generally retaining the original properties would retain the original quality.
Iphone video may use a variable frame rate which video editors may struggle with as the timelines only use a constant rate.
From Video Studio timelines / library, If you right click your original video, choose properties
What are they?
You do say Mov so why are you rendering that to WMV, then converting that to H265.
Personally I would keep the original settings, if I needed another format then Mpeg4 h264 would be my choice.
I see no point in upping that to H265 -- “making a silk purse out of a sow's ear" comes to mind
Playback of H265 is also demanding on our pc’s.
Another post regarding Hevc gave a link to Microsoft hevc extension
If you have not installed then maybe that will help playback.

Quicktime codec, do you have that installed?
As you are working with Mov, they may benefit by installing the QT codec, although you seem to be coping.

Hello lata,
thanks for your reply. First I have a mistake in my first posting. I do not convert it to h.265 in the last step. It will stay in h.264 - sorry for the confusion.
I did the converting to wmv because I had several crashes with videostudio doing pan and zoom with the original mov file using the trial version of videostudio 2018. I found a posting, that converting it to wmv could solve the problem and it worked.
Now I switched to the full version of videostudio 2018 and it seems to work with the original mov files.
Thanks for your help.

Is there a way to detect and correct a variable frame rate?lata wrote:Iphone video may use a variable frame rate which video editors may struggle with as the timelines only use a constant rate.

Hi
The standard frame rate for NTCS is 29.97 fps / 59.94fps
If your frame rate does not show that (maybe 29.83) then most likely it will be using a variable frame rate.
Media Info is probably the best tool to check video files properties.
If Video Studio is coping with your files then I should not worry.
