The numbers I used came from the youtube video I linked to fist in my post. His numbers came from knowing what he wanted, and just playing around. He knows what makes an Ansel Adams piece look like an Ansel Adams piece and he knows how to adjust the colors to get that effect. I don't. The second image I showed was meant to show that you can't just constantly use the same values, they needed to be adjusted to the image that you're using.

Ok, then his was from experience. That is one reason I had trouble with channel mixer not knowing how to adjust the RGB values. That initial image that first comes up on your video is excellent and I don't know how I could improve on it. This suggests to me that I wouldn't necessarily have to work on blacks, midtones and highlights separately to get the look I am hoping for. Thank you LeviFiction for all your help.

Hi JoeB,
I agree about not being able to create an accurate selenium image as Ansel Adams would have considering our methods are so different. If I can produce a credible selenium image, that would certainly satisfy me seeing as how I don't have his talent or vision. My amateur status is never in doubt as far as I am concerned...lol.
As I have mentioned before, I need only satisfy myself which is one of the blessings of being an amateur. My images will only see the light of day on the walls of my home and the small website I have on Flickr. Thank you for taking the trouble to respond to my post.
Regards
Tim
