60 hz hum ;-(

Post by BobSa »

We used two camcorders for an interview the other day and my friend has rendered with the "other software" in town and did a nice job with the J and L cuts. However, the sound track from one camera has a 60 hz hum on it. I used my Sound Forge to verify it was 60 hz. I have since did two more interviews on top of this first one. "data" is gone. ;-(

Any noise cancelling programs that will filter this 60hz out of the audio?

Why am I here --- I am trying to fix it using my Ulead by extracting the audio track, filter the noise and then put the repaired audio back into the video with Ulead. video is for a 30 minute program.

Oh, don't want to spend any money.

Thank you for any resources available to filter the 60hz hum.

Search the forums for "Audacity" -- it should do the job.

Update: Just click here. Please note that the first occurence of "Audacity" in that thread is a hyperlink to the SourceForge project page.

In SoundForge you should have a 60Hz notch filter.
That and the 120 hz notch filter should remove the hum.
You may have to access the "Plug-ins" to get to the filter.
