Hi Can anyone offer me any thoughts on this please?
One of the cameras I use for making videos is the Panasonic SD90 and in general is working as it should.
Now recently when I'm making videos I've noticed the footage will go "Blurry" which is very annoying, I'm not sure if there is a way to correct this on Corel 10?
But ultimately I sent my camera to be looked at with dkavs.co.uk, and told them there is a problem with the lense, and they carried out a soak test where nothing was found!
So have any of you had this problem and what was the issue?
Thanks
Rob

Re: Blurry Footage Problem
I guess this is due to the camera's automatic focusing (AF) mechanism. AF while capturing video can get fooled when the scene is changing, or you pan or zoom. Some cameras AF are better than others. Nothing you can do to correct the video that is blurry other than cut that portion.
Videographers who are professional avoid AF. Most of us non-professionals use AF though. Practicing a lot with your camera is the only solution so we can anticipate when the camera's AF will fail. I just captured a dance performance of one of my grands and had your blurring ruin some portions of my video capture. I replaced the lens in my camera for a wide angle one which behaves much better. Scenes that are dark are also more challenging for AF systems.

Hi thanks for the info.
Can the AF Mechanism be fixed on this camera do you think?

Re: Blurry Footage Problem
I don't know your camera. Scan the menus for Focusing Mode. I have Panasonic cameras and the menu options under Focus Mode are AFS, AFF, AFC, MF. With AFS, camera focuses when you press the shutter and then does not try to re-focus; if the scene needs refocus, slightly press the shutter; AFF is like AFS, but the camera senses if the scene changes and refocuses; AFC is refocusing constantly. MF is manual focus with the lens focusing ring.
Focus is very complex; the camera is trying to decide what to focus on all the time with AFC. Sometimes you want to focus on something that is partially blocked in the scene. Notice professional videographers very seldom pan or zoom and very carefully compose the scene to avoid any blocking, and to avoid our AF woes, they use MF. As I mentioned before, dark scenes are the most challenging for AF systems.

Re: Blurry Footage Problem
hi
is the camera sd90 or sd900?
I own a SD 900 usually works ok, i assume the camera is set to auto recording and not manual.

Re: Blurry Footage Problem
I sent the camera back to Panasonic DKAVS and they came up with a quote of £190! Because it needs a new Requires lens assy and set up!
