I'm trying to create a new Personal Profile using Movie Profile Manager but it will not accept the video data rate I entered of 99,999 kbps. The profile I want to create is to match the profile of the raw clip. I'm using the MPEG-4 option. It allows me to enter 99,999 in the dialog box but when I click ok button the video data rate reverts to 34,463 kbps.
I originally went with the MPEG-4 option because it allowed me to select Video type "H.264-HIGH" profile which matches the profile property on the raw clip. I couldn't get that same setting when using AVC/H.264 option.
I know I can use the "add" feature as a work around but I'm don't understand why I can't just create (New) the custom profile in the first instance.
Any suggestions?
Should I be using the MPEG-4 or AVC/H.264 option ? I'm finding it a bit confusing?

Re: Issue with Personal Profile using Movie Profile Manager
I suspect it is because that is the maximum bitrate (35 Mbps) that VS can use in normal circumstances. So Movie Profile Manager sets that as its limit as well. I have no idea why Corel chose that maximum. At one stage several versions ago the maximum was 18 Mbps. Maybe someone else will have information about this.

Re: Issue with Personal Profile using Movie Profile Manager
Thanks Ken.
When I use the Personal Profile created with the "Add" feature it does set the video data rate to 100Mbs but I have noticed that the rendered clip has a video data bit rate of only 64Mbs. Using MediaInfo it tells me that the bit rate is 64Mbs, the maximum bit rate is 100Mbs and the bit rate mode is "Variable". I'm a bit lost here. Am I right to assume that while the maximum bit rate can be 100Mbs because the mode is "Variable" then the average bit rate for this rendered clip comes out at only 64Mbs?

Re: Issue with Personal Profile using Movie Profile Manager
I noticed that when I tried the AVC/H.264 option to create a Personal Profile the maximum video bit rate it would allow me to enter is 65Mbs. So maybe the codec encoder that VS uses have a upper limit of only 65Mbs for AVC format.

Re: Issue with Personal Profile using Movie Profile Manager
I have probably gotten a bit out of date on the upper limits for bitrates of the various formats in VS. And on thinking about it a bit more since my earlier posting, I think the 35 Mbps I mentioned might be the upper limit for high def mpeg-2. I knew they had upped the max bitrate for AVCHD/mpeg-4 considerably from the earlier 18 Mbps, but lost track of what the new upper limit might be.
But by the sounds of it you have discovered it at 65 Mbps.
Certainly, though, for variable bitrate video the average bitrate will almost always be less -- sometimes considerably less -- than the maximum bitrate. Variable bitrates are supposed to produce a more "economical" smaller video file size by using a higher bitrate for those sections of the video with a lot of fast action, and a lower bitrate for those with less action.

Rickman, VS has only numbered discrete profiles with limited user tweaks.
As with some other aspects in VS, deeper tinkering is possible but only in the hand of advanced user as it can get VS unusable.

This topic should be read in conjunction with:-

So it looks like VS maximum is 65Mbps for XAVC-S format using VS2018.
I will do further experimenting later on to see if I can get better than 65Mbps.
