So I have a project that has nearly 6,300 pictures (taken over a span of 9 years)... And I know this can be done but forgot the process & need a little reminder of how to do this...
What I would like to do is put them all into a timeline to be exported to an looped mp4.
I would like to have a 5-7 second pic duration with 1 second transitions (random or fixed) front & back on each photo used...
How would I import this? And then how do I set all overlaps, durations & transitions to match pic to pic globally....
(I know how to do this manually but with the volume of media it would be a bit overwhelming)

I think your proposed project will cause VS to choke, crash and burn. At six seconds per image (which is really a looong time) your project is 10.5 hours long. That is probably beyond the abilities of VS but I'm not certain of that.
What resolution will you use to generate? At 1920x1080 your file could approach 43GB in size - it will take a long time to render if it doesn't crash first.
Consider smaller chunks of 300 images (30 minutes), render to a file, repeat untill all images have been used. Then use a programable viewer program to play the list in the order you want and then repeat.
Just curious...who will be watching 10.5 hours of video at a sitting?

Gewb, it's not just 10.5H its... "and looped mp4."
maybe a new scientology treatment.

To be fair, I can see where there are needs for something like this.asik1 wrote:Gewb, it's not just 10.5H its... "and looped mp4."

However, saving as an MP4 is not the way I would approach this project. Instead, I would size the images to 4,096 x 2160 pixel resolution (which covers 4K screens) then use an image viewer program to sort, save and display the pics. Programs such as FastStone Image Viewer offer more than 150 transition effects and user defined sorting (not just alphanumeric up/down).

Go to (F6) Settings Preferences – edit tab
Set image duration to 7 seconds
Set the Transition effect to Automatic with a 1 second duration
Choose a default transition, I would try FX Crossfade, but your choice. The more complex the transition the longer to render.
Close preferences
From the edit screen Settings Project Properties, here you should set your desired final output, the properties of the video you are intending to make.
Right click the timeline for Insert Photo.
All images will be 7 seconds with a 1 sec transition.
And if you are intending to use 6000+ images then the project will be 10 hours, as Gary’s reply.
That’s if VS accepts so many images
When you render Share Same as Project Settings, at real time will take 10 hours,
As for looping the media player should be capable of that, assuming it will support a 10 hour video

Re: 6,000+ pics... VS8 Dumb Question...
If you have trouble with VS not able to handle the 6,000 plus image load! Another option is Corel Moviefactory 7 Pro. It has a slideshow feature (don't know if it will run on win 10)
I've tested about 3 months ago and made dvd , got up to 3,020 photo's stopped got tired adding photo's. It was just a test, had no reason to keep going. Had 1 second trans. 2sec
photo CMFPro did handle it and could have handled more.

Re: 6,000+ pics... VS8 Dumb Question...
I would not use VS for this, it is totally unnecessary and wastefull of hard disk space and pc time. Simply have all the photo files in one folder and use a program to show a slideshow of the folder. One program that has all the features desired is Irfanview, but even Windows comes with a Photo viewer that has all the features.
