Missing clone selection brushes

Post by jimbir »

I have PSP 2018. In the older versions, There were some line type brush shapes. The closest thing I see in this version is something called a ribbon. What happened to the lines? Actually they were more like rectangles because you could specify the length and the width.
Maybe I'm missing something...

I don't know if I added a lot of these myself over the years, but in my PSP2018 there is a dropdown beside the Presets dropdown that has a whole bunch of different brushes available when I have the Clone tool selected, including various lines. You set the size of the selected line from the Size box on the Clone brush Tool Options palette.

Those line brushes are just the square brush with a thickness of 1. The angle is handled by the rotation. Which, by the way, only the round and square brushes can have their thickness manipulated. A custom brush cannot. So if you remember changing the thickness of the line, then those are the ones you want.

Once you have got the square brush with a thickness of 1, how do you save it? I am sure jimbir was right. Paint Shop Pro 2018 did have the lines, but they are now missing. I loved the diagonal one, especially when removing certain "diagonal" lines from photos.

With your brush settings the way you like them, open the brush selection drop-down on the tool options palette. At the bottom of that drop-down, above the "Do More WIth Brushes" advertisement there are two buttons. "Create BrushTip" and "Create BrushTip from Selection" Create BrushTip is the icon with the brush over a piece of paper and "Brushtip From SelectioN" is the brush over a selection marquee icon.

Hit "Create BrushTip"

You'll see a picture of your brush, you can give it a name, and special information. If you want to include Brush Variance settings make sure to check the "Save Variance" checkbox. Then hit OK and it'll create the brush for you.

The Line brushes in the Clone tool have all disappeared. The only one resembling a line is "Ribbon," but I want a straight line. They used to be there but now are gone. How can I get them back? The previous posts don't say how.

One way to get brush tips back is to select the brush tips in earlier PSP installs. Copy them to C:\ProgramData\Corel\PaintShop Pro. Then select File > Preferences > File Locations... > Brushes and add your directory to the list. PSP will look there for brushes.
Had PS3, PSP3; Installed: PSP-4.12, 5.03, 6.02, 7.04 (liked it a lot & used it for years), 8.00, XI, x4.3.0.3, x6.2.0.20, x7.4.0.11, x8.3.0.13, x9.2.0.7; now using PSPx10 (PSP 2018; version 20.2.0.1 x64) on Win 10-64 b2004.
