Motion Path in Boris Fx Version 7
I am using VideoStudio V9 and included with this is Boris FX V7.
I am teaching myself to learn VideoStudio and I have now come across Boris. I cannot find any tutorials for this version of Boris and have now started watching earlier versions, but they are not quite the same. I am putting together a partial outlook on what I want to do from these earlier versions.
What I am trying to do in Boris, is move my text in the Composite screen to travel a certain distance of the clip and then apply some sort of filter that maybe explodes or disperses the text. I don't even know if Boris can do this???
I watched a tutorial of an earlier version called Motion Path Tutorial for Boris Red 4 (the closes thing that I could use, and was hoping to learn from it and apply what little knowledge and no how I have to my scenario); I have now got to the point in my version where I am suppose to add a Motion Path and this is where it all goes wrong. The other version says that I will find it on the Filter>Motion Menu I EVENTUALLY found it on Preview>Controls>Motion Path, but I can't get to it, it's greyed out, so I am assuming that I have missed a step somewhere.
All I want is perhaps a tutorial that can show me how to use it and hopefully I can put the pieces together to accomplish my scenario. OR perhaps a Motion Path is not what I need to use. I have included a screen shot of the word I want to travel to a point in the clip.
Whilst here, I would also like to say what a great program VideoStudio is, I am learning so much, AND THERE IS SO MUCH TOO LEARN. So I can remember I am writing it all down, because as a 70 year old, I forget things, well that's my excuse. I do come back over the notes and redo them again and again, this way I cement it into my memory. I am now getting pretty good at understanding a "little" of Boris as I have been on this for nearly a week, but I just can't get this Motion Path going... it's such a big learning curve for me. Love Gripps he has shown me a lot.
Anyway thanks to any help/replies I get.

I'm afraid there isn't any Boris guru here,
You better try to do the motion in VS .

Re: Motion Path in Boris Fx Version 7
Hi annie + mite
I don't have VS9 but do have VS10 which includes Boris Graffiti 7.0 and what you would like to accomplish can be done for the most part. I'm not a BG user but I was able to make what I think you want in about five minutes.
I don't have time right now to create a Live Screen Capture to show how I approach the task but I'll try to finish one up over the weekend and load it to an Internet share site (my Box account).

Short (3.5 minutes) Live Screen Capture tutorial is done. It will show the basic workflow but not details such as changing text color, font, location on screen, etc. Download the MP4 from my Box account. I'll leave it here for a couple months:

Wow! You have done it. Thank you so much. What was I thinking of the Motion Path, you made it look so easy. I also saw that you typed your text on the Advanced screen, didn't see that one coming, but then this is my first time in Boris. I will give it a go and see what happens, but it certainly looks much easier than what I was trying to do. Stay tuned, I will respond again with my success story in a couple of days.

Re: Motion Path in Boris Fx Version 7
Not yet the guru, would love to be, but there is so much to learn.
Mine is not working quite like yours, my word doesn't slide along. When it comes to the first keyframe, the word is suddenly there. And CTI moves along to next keyframe and shatters nicely. The "slide" might be a version thing. Have attached screen shot.
Nonetheless, it did only take me 5 minutes to do, but I kept watching your presentation just in case I was missing something.
Thanks again.

Re: Motion Path in Boris Fx Version 7
I was pressed for time thus no clarifications. Even though it is now about 4:30am I'm again pressed for time as I leave at 5am to take pictures...thus I'll be brief.annie+mite wrote:Mine is not working quite like yours, my word doesn't slide along. Thanks again.
First, plan your segment:
1) Plan and program text
2) Begin off screen left at time 00:00:00:00
3) Move horizontal to right stopping at screen center for 5.0 seconds (00:00:05:00)
4) Pause text for 1.5 seconds (00:00:05:00 to 00:00:06:15)
5) Shatter text for 3 seconds (00:00:06:15 to 00:00:09:15)
6) Allow 0.5 seconds between shatter end and end of clip (00:00:09:15 to end at 00:00:10:00)
What you missed, after seeing your attachment, is the end frame of one track must match the start frame of the following track. Your second track begins before the last frame of the previous track, thus it "pops" up early.
The "slide" is determined by the initial (starting) position and the ending position expressed as X and Y coordinates. You set those on the left side of the window. I grab and drag to get a rough starting position then look at the coordinates. Click a coordinate number, highlight the current value and type in the exact value you want - use this to fine tune to a fraction of a degree.
I set the starting coordinates to be off screen. Next you set the ending (stopping) coordinate position and the BG project time (in my sample that is Time 00:00:05:00) before the next beginning event. When this track is played the text slides in from the left and stops is the center, then dissappears, as I had programmed.
Then next event is the text remains stationary. The start of the event begins at the same timed frame as the end of the previous event. In my sample that is Time 00:00:05:00 - repeat start/stop coordinates, which are the same, at the stop time as above.
Last is the shatter. The start of the event begins at the same timed frame as the end of the previous event. In my sample that is Time 00::00:06:15 - repeat start/stop coordinates, which are the same, and the stop time as 00:00:09:15. Next add a new filter (effect) to this last event - I used the BCC 3D Image Shatter effect.

Re: Motion Path in Boris Fx Version 7
I am hoping this is not a duplicate of my previous message to you, which I first previewed and then had to log in again, and lost it all. Firstly, thank you for your help on this. Secondly, If you don't have the time to reply I am okay with it as I don't like to waste people's time and I can see you may be burning the candle at both ends.
What I did this time around was to create the project from scratch using your coordinates, I ensure I started at 0:00 and moved each track to your coordinates. The first line started at 0:00 and finished at 5:00. Second started at 5:00 and finished at 6:15. Third started at 6:15 and ended at 9:15...Even though my clip goes for about 38:00.
My coordinates for Position X was 960 and for Position Y it was 540, this was before I moved text off screen.
I dragged text off screen and Position X read -208 and I entered in -210.
Position Y now read 580 and I entered in 590.
I wasn't sure what you were doing when you played, stopped at 5:00, then played/stopped again at 6:15, but I followed your actions for the just in case. I added the new filter and...
Clicked the Video1 track and played and it's still the same.
I tried to put the VSP file here as an attachment but it's not allowed so I have given a screen shot again.
Thanks again for all your help.

GEWB, side Q,
What is your boris version? I'm having 7.0.0477 (on my X9) and I can't just drag/adjust things in the composite windows, all modifications can do only with the left sliders
Or there is any control switch I can turn on?
Thank you.

I created another filter (particle explodes rather than shatter) and exported the GRF file - attached here as a ZIP file. Download it, unzip it and apply it when you run BG, it should work with no issues. You can change anything in it and apply it to your project.annie+mite wrote:I tried to put the VSP file here as an attachment but it's not allowed so I have given a screen shot again.
