Re: Unable to burn Bluray Discs
In fact that is a very old mini DV camcorder, from around 2006. It films, as you say, to a small tape and produces what is called DV/AVI format video. It was very good quality video in its day but definitely standard definition. It converts easily enough, as you have found, the standard def mpeg-2. But as I have already said, it is never going to give you high quality high def Blu-Ray discs. Yes, you could convert it to Blu-Ray compatible AVCHD H.264 video for burning to Blu-Ray, but again, that will not magically convert your original video into high definition high quality video. Stick with mpeg-2 but in Edit, when you go to Share > MPEG-2, click on the down pointing arrow and select one of the preset formats such as 1920 x 1080. That will convert your project to Blu-Ray compatible mpeg-2 which you can then insert in the Burn module. But as I say, don't expect miracles in terms of final quality.

Intresting, Reading this topic. I have a issue burning bluray ( and posted a thread to which i hope i receive a reply or two but i suspect i will get the usual..what setting do you have / your burner installed / what version / what mpeg yadda yadda yadda..when basically...my bluray is installed, VS9 states can burn to bluray. I have the project in the timeline ( i prefer this method and not the quicker version of rendering / saving first ), and simply press 'Share' and Burn to bluray....go through the usual guff ( which has never been improved in all the years Ive known Corel/Ulead ) and come to end screen...burn..wait 1hr 45min ( for a 50min project ) and then be told ' not enough space / cache full' etc etc
At a loss as per the norm. Shouldnt need to mess about and in this day and age be a 1 click and your done..none of this..'aaaarrrr your settings are only showing 1231382 x 1231392 x 1231231 mpeg 2 not mpeg 4 thats your problems!!! )
Still intresting to read it's not just me then!

Back in 2006, that camera spec'd at numbers that are HD. And it wasn't cheap either. Attached is a google search 'cut' from the spec sheet

Re: Unable to burn Bluray Discs
The resolution numbers are of course for photos taken with the camcorder, not video. That was fixed at 720 x 576 (PAL) and 720 x 480 (NTSC).

Re: Unable to burn Bluray Discs
Further to my other posts, I did a trial using AVCHD but was unable to burn in Video Studio x10 and keeps getting a message Convert steps got some problems 257.0.0. However, I was able to burn using another program. Just thinking maybe some problems with VS x!0.

Hi tezza
I have merged your last post to your original posts here, please do not create duplicates as that just causes confusion with replies, Thanks.
Did you read the earlier reply from Ken
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=63834&start=15#p358090
Please read the details on this page regarding a workflow to burn discs
http://lata.me.uk/corel/all.htm
The error you are seeing is probably a problem when rendering the project VSP file within the burner module, by first converting to Mpeg2 we avoid that process, shown as Convert Title.
We should then be able to burn the Mpeg2 video file, and that is what the other programs used, a video file not a project file.

Re: Unable to burn Bluray Discs
Hi Trevor I did convert the video to MPEG2 and then tried to burn but still got that message with convert steps. The video was already on discs so I edited it and then tried burning to a Bluray so that I only required one disc instead of the four discs.

Re: Unable to burn Bluray Discs
Hi
When we burn a disc the best option by far is to convert to a compliant video file
For DVD will be Mpeg2 720 x 576, 25 fps
For Bluray that is Share - AVC/H.264D --1920 x 1080, 25 fps, creates a m2ts file
We can of course customise the templates but must retain the compliancy.
To burn a disc we now start a new project, effectively emptying the timelines
Share – Disc –DVD will open the burner where we add our video, top left for import Video choosing the Mpeg2
Share – Disc – Bluray, again opens the burner add video choosing the m2ts
In each case above we are using a compliant video, when we hit the burn button the process should start with Convert Menu
If you see convert Title then the project is being converted, it is this process that is causing the problem.
Can you confirm that hitting Burn does start with Convert Menu.
To save wasting discs you can choose to create a disc image or folder, that will run through the process
You seem to mention that 4 discs are required?
How long is your video?
One note on converting the video, the originals will use Interlacing at Lower Field First
Rendering using Video Studio may revert to Upper Field, you should edit / modify the templates to use Lower Field.

Re: Unable to burn Bluray Discs
Hi Trevor, I did follow your instructions but my PC crashed so I will need to re-burn the project. The time that I did try to burn I went straight to Mpeg2 for the Bluray disc. I did see Convert title. The video is fairly long about 45gb and the disc I am using is 50gb. I did not get the last part about the interlacing at Lower field First and do not know how to modify the templates. Hopefully, I will be able to burn the disc again.
Thanks
Terence
Thanks
Terence

Re: Unable to burn Bluray Discs
If you saw "Convert Title" then obviously VS was not seeing a compatible Blu-Ray compatible mpeg-2 and was converting it to Blu-Ray compatibility. When you went to Share > MPEG-2, did you choose an option with 1920 x 1080 and bitrate of 25 or 35 Mbps?Tezza wrote:The time that I did try to burn I went straight to Mpeg2 for the Bluray disc. To take account of the Lower Field First interlacing, you would need to go to Share > Custom and choose 'MPEG transport stream files [*.m2t]'. A dialogue box will appear with two tabs: General and Compression. On the General tab I would set the frame size to 1920 x 1080. On the Compression tab I would change the compression from the default 18000 kbps to 35000 kbps
The Frame Type on the General tab might be a bit tricky in this case. You could choose Lower Field First there. However, my own preference would be to choose Frame Based. That's because I am not completely sure that the international Blu-Ray standard would recognize an .m2t file set with Lower Field First as being Blu-Ray compatible. In other words, if you chose Lower Field First, then when you inserted that clip in the burning module, you might get "Convert Title" again. Setting it to Frame Based is definitely compatible with the international Blu-Ray standard and should therefore work.

Re: Unable to burn Bluray Discs
Hi Guys
I have used DV-Avi, converted to M2TS to burn Bluray with no problems using LFF
MPEG Transport-Stream Files
24 bits, 1920 x 1080, 25 fps
Lower Field First
(HDMV-PAL), 16:9
H.264 Video
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 16800 kbps)
Audio data rate: 384 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 2/0(L,R)
I have to say that normally I only burn discs with a max of 1 hour for DVD, I have increased that when burning Bluray.
But would add several video files (titles) to each disc limited to 1 hour.
I think I got used to the limit recording to mini DV, even so long enough for me to watch in one go.
Ken I have to disagree with the 35000kbps
The original video was Dv.AVI I assume then converted to Mpeg2, standard definition
Converting that to Bluray M2ts will increase the files size, the data rate will influence that, I do not see any point in using a higher data rate than say 20000, my pana 900 records to 16800kbps (approx. 8 Gb per hour) very good quality.
“Silk purse out of a saws ear comes to mind”
another option
Terence.. how long is the movie and can you split that into smaller video files?
We can add several video files to a disc, that creates Titles for each, each can be played separately or play all?
Rendering to smaller video may overcome the errors when rendering the full project.

Re: Unable to burn Bluray Discs
Thanks, Guys I managed to burn the Bluray disc. The next time I will split the video into smaller files.
