Support Policy change for version updates?

Post by Davidk »

Up to and including X10, Corel published - on their support/patches and updates pages - video studio patches, service packs, hot fixes etc by version, ie choose version, and get all the patches etc for that version. This link gets you to the pages concerned
https://www.videostudiopro.com/en/support/updates/

Downloading and saving any updates etc in combination with the initial app download was a handy way of keeping the application backup archive reasonably current. You could install and update the app locally without any internet connection: eg, if you had a hardware failure and were recovering after something (hardware - a motherboard or HDD, or software - the OS) was replaced, or were installing apps on a new computer, and you did not have to have it connected to the internet to do it. And I have had to do that on many occasions, and been thankful for the ability to do it.

Since VS2018 was released however, there's nothing in the patches and updates pages for this (the current) version, despite it having reached service pack 2, with sp3 rumoured to be released soon (late June 2018). And I've been checking, following my practice of keeping the backup archive of the app version 'current'. Which, frankly in the absence of any 2018 updates on the patches pages, it isn't. The only way to update the app - assuming a restoration was required, from the saved download files - is to connect to the net and 'check for updates'. But there are lots of places where communication of any sort, let alone the net, is basic to non-existent and thus an update under those conditions is totally impractical.

And nearly 5 months after the version release, the absence of 2018 from the patches and updates page cannot be accidental. So, is this new practice - of not publishing updates for Video Studio 2018 - a new policy approach by Corel? Does anyone know?

I suspect that there have been no updates/patches since VS2018 was officially released, from memory, SP2 was included in that release and is automatically downloaded when the installer is activated.
SP3 is overdue for release, and, hopefully when released will include many long awaited fixes

I'll ask Corel and report back if/when I hear anything.

Hi Robert, Ken,
The released program came with sp1 as part of it, so I suppose it's conceivable that sp1 would not be in the patches page. But SP2 was released about 4 weeks later, and it should be. Thanks for the effort - it will be nice to know what the new plan is, since clearly the old one doesn't apply to 2018.
