Clone Brush Has Sore Throat???

Post by terri232 »

All of a sudden, my clone brush is not cloning properly - it's as though it does not understand when I right click and choose an area - it is using the last right click instead of the new. If anyone can help me, it would be greatly appreciated. I need baby steps tho - PSP 2018. It has been working perfectly since the beginning so I don't know what has caused this.
Thank you -

Check in your Layers palette that you have the right layer selected when you choose your source. I assume you have a number of layers although you could also have a number of images open on the workspace and be cloning from one image to another image. You have not described well what situation you are working with to give us more clues.
You could also click the little arrow beside presets and reset the clone tool to its default (second button down on right).

Am only working with one layer. I choose the Clone Brush, choose the area and right click - the X appears - then I left click on the space I want to clone and nothing happens. Let's say for example, I have a black background but there are a few white spots on the area that I want to cover up. I left click in the black area and right click over the spot but no color covers it.

Whenever any tool does not seem to work as you want it, reset the tool to default.
Under Presets and to the right there is a white down arrow.
Click that and to the right you will see 4 buttons . The second one down will set the tool to its default settings. If you have opacity turned down too low then this will correct it to 100% which is one thing that could result in nothing happening if it was set too low.

Wouldn't it make more sense for Corel to have put the Reset to Default button on the Tool Options palette for the tools? Maybe it's just me but it isn't intuitive for me to expect to fine a reset to default button for the tool hidden under the Presets dropdown.

Possibly but it would need careful placement or a new icon as it could be confused with the Undo button.
But I guess that's the way Jasc did it and Corel was wary of changing that further considering the history of changes that have broken something else.
