I can hear you from here~~and you can probably hear me, too, lol.
So you save a blank image and copy and resize the new one? I'm a bit confused.

I will open up PSP >
Ctrl+O to open any image file >
When that image is open, I will copy it to my clipboard and then paste as a NEW image. Then go and close that previous image that I opened (the original) >
Now on this new image I will simply "delete" that image from the layer so it's blank >
Resize canvas to the size I would have put it if CTRL+N actually works for me.
I hope that makes sense.

It literally only takes seconds each time. It's the only work around I can think of and it stops me pulling my hair out at least for 5 mins lol

Re: PSP 2018 Freezing and tools not working
I can usually make one new image, but won't try for 2.
Why not keep a large blank image and copy it and save the original for the next time?

Because I have folders within folders within folders, so it's easier to just open any image that is in the folder I last had open or that I am going to, rather than have to go find my way back to that folder after going to my desktop or anywhere else that I saved the blank one. I always start out organised but end up messy with folders so for me personally it's easier this way haha

Re: PSP 2018 Freezing and tools not working
At least you start out organized! I have so many files to organize I shake just thinking about them. I kinda gave up.
The only things that are pretty much organized are my fonts~~of which I have over 10,000.

Re: PSP 2018 Freezing and tools not working
While it's not good that a few of you have this issue, if you do need a workaround then you could easily make it a one click workaround instead of manually going through these steps you set out. Just script a procedure, then bind the script to an icon and place it on your menu bar or another toolbar or in the File dropdown menu, and with one click you can open a blank image with the Resize dialogue also open to By Print Size so that you can set the pixel size you want as well as the resolution you want. You just have to create and save a blank image once, then record the script and save the script. Here's how I'd do it.notyou87 wrote:I will open up PSP >Leslie wrote:So you save a blank image and copy and resize the new one? I'm a bit confused.
1) Open any image you want to use to start with (just like you apparently do now) and, as long as it's a Raster layer then delete the image contents (just like you do now). This should leave you with a completely transparent image.
2) Save that image somewhere that you won't delete it from accidentally, naming it something like My Blank Image, and save it in .pspimage format. Then close the image from the workspace.
3) Now start recording a script by hitting the red Start Script Recording button.
4) Then do File>Open and browse to the saved blank file and open it.
5) Then Image>Resize, and when the Resize dialogue opens make sure the By Print Size radio button is selected.
6) Click OK to close the Resize dialogue.
7) Save the script to your Scripts Trusted folder, giving it a name, maybe like Open Blank Image.
You can now close the image you opened and, if you now run the script (and if you have the Toggle Execution Mode button toggled on so that the script will run interactively) your blank image will open and so will the resize dialogue, ready to go. Of course, when you work on that blank canvas don't let it save over the original, which should be somewhere that you don't normally keep, add or delete images to and from.
Then it's just a matter of using Customize to bind the script to an icon and dragging it where it will be most convenient for you to access when you want to start a new image.

Re: PSP 2018 Freezing and tools not working
Oh, geez. I thought it was working.
I get the new image to open, but resize doesn't open, and when I try to resize manually it only gives me standard print sizes.
What to do?
Not doing the Happy Dance anymore.

Re: PSP 2018 Freezing and tools not working
Leslie could I get you to test something for me?
Download this script and save it to your Scripts-Restricted folder. This is usually located at C:\Users\YouUserName\Documents\Corel PaintShop Pro\2018\scripts-Restricted
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1lCO7xQ ... sp=sharing
Then try and run it, does it freeze up? Or does it create a blank new image of 800x800 pixels?
As for the resize issue, with your script selected on the script toolbar hit the "Edit script" button. This will open what is known as the "Simple Script Editor." You'll want to change the drop-down next to "Resize" to say "Interactive."
I have a tutorial on this dialog here - https://levifiction.wordpress.com/2018/ ... pt-editor/
That will make sure the resize command always runs interactively. You'll want to open up the advanced options in the resize dialog and make sure "Lock Aspect Ratio" is not selected. Then you can enter any size you want into the width and height. It will still only give standard sizes in the drop down but it will let you manually change the size to anything at all.

It opens up the 800x800 image, but only lets me use the print size. Putting anything in the resize box doesn't work.

Re: PSP 2018 Freezing and tools not working
Ok, I figured out why I couldn't resize the 800x800 image. I didn't have "resize all layers" checked. Now it works.

Re: PSP 2018 Freezing and tools not working
Glad to hear it
Leslie, I had not been following this topic at all. So I just went back and re-read some things. Did you do a full reset or just the partial reset that Kathy had recommended?
The fact that the script I gave you worked, suggests that it's specifically a UI problem. Something is not allowing PSP to properly open the New Image dialog specifically. When did this start? Had Windows performed an update recently? Also, have you tried disconnecting from the internet before opening PSP to see if that makes a difference? I know someone else complained that it happens when they are offline but I'm more curious as to how things react for you specifically.

Re: PSP 2018 Freezing and tools not working
I reset everything but the file locations.
It started a over a month ago, I think. Slowly it started freezing more often. Now I can usually open one image before it freezes.
Windows did a major update, but it was happening before that. In fact, I rolled back the update to see if it would make a difference, and it didn't.
No, I haven't disconnected from the internet to try it.
