PSP 2018 Freezing and tools not working

Post by Leslie »

Hi, All

PSP is freezing quite frequently. I go to open any tool, and it freezes. Doesn't matter which one.
It happens whether or not I am using a keyboard shortcut.
I just re-installed X9, but am hoping to find a solution to 2018.

Hope someone has a solution.

Thanks so much,
Leslie

Leslie, have you tried doing a reset by holding the Shift key? Here are the instructions for X6 but they work for all versions.

No, haven't done that. Was hoping there was something I could try without losing my settings.
Does it matter which method I use?

Option 1 gives you a little more control over what is reset as you can check or un-check areas. Make sure you save your workspace if you've customized it.

So just reset general preferences and delete cache files and leave the others alone?

You can start there as part of your troubleshooting. I would also check dialog positions and last used settings.

I have reset my psp, and have figured out that when I create a new blank image psp will freeze. Not all the time, but enough that it is very annoying. I have to save my work every 30 seconds so I don't lose it.

Anyone have a fix other than resetting, which I have already done?

I don't know if this will help us troubleshoot, but could you provide the settings you use when creating a new blank image?

It doesn't matter if I click on the icon or hit ctrl+N. PSP will freeze.
I can't create a new blank image.

Corel "support" also told me to reset. That was no help.
For me, the freezing only happens when I am offline, so I presume it is related to spyware installed with PSP.
Deleting Protexis didn't solve the problem, though. Maybe there is more spyware that I don't know about, or maybe just more instances of it.

Protexis is the licensing service used by Corel. When you open PSP Protexis validates that your copy of PSP is a legitimate copy. If you are offline or delete it then it can't validate your version and you won't be able to use all of the PSP features. I always use my firewall (ZoneAlarm) to block all programs - except those that are internet ones - from accessing the internet, including PSP. But I don't block Protexis (PsiService) or PSP won't work properly.

I'm not sure how validation is done by those who own PSP and actually don't have Internet access for Protexis to work, but maybe someone else knows the answer to that.

I'm never offline, so that's not the problem for me.
And I have legit copies for all my psp's.
I'm using File~new instead of the shortcuts, so I'll see if that keeps working.

JoeB may be on to something. Even if you are online, your firewall may be blocking Protexis from calling home.

If Protexis is your problem, what looks like a good solution (better than what I did) is posted at (https://www.mydigitallife.net/how-to-di ... rvice-exe/).

Geez,I'm scared to death to try that.
btw, file~new finally froze the program as well.
Why would psp just start messing up out of nowhere? And why would an older copy do the same thing? (I re~installed one to see if it worked).
Just rhetorical questions, I guess.
I just keep saving my work every 2 minutes and hope for the best.

I have the same issue with ctrl+n and opening from the menu.
It does the same with Templates also, if I try open them it freezes PSP completely.

My workaround is to always open a file, copy and paste it into a new image, and then resize canvas to whatever I need it and delete the image. It's annoying but it only takes 20 secs to do and stops you from having to pull out your hair and want to throw your pc/laptop. Sometimes I forget though, that it freezes so will try make a new blank file and then as soon as I do I realize and scream!
