You can do some Google searches about this, but from what I have seen there have been no changes to the actual use of the Nik filters - i.e., they haven't been improved in any way. The update - for which they are now charging money - is simply to update the code to make the collection more compatible with the latest MAC and PC operating systems and particularly the latest 64bit versions of Photoshop and Elements. Apparently the collection was showing some instability and bugs when used with these latest Adobe products.sheng-si wrote:DxO announced new nik collection 2018.

So if your present Nik filters are working fine with your present operating system and graphic software then I can't seen any benefit to paying money for the DXO release. It is possible that, now that they have updated the code, future releases might provide more and maybe better functionality of the filters themselves.

Downloaded the free trial yesterday, no problems with installation. I haven't previously used the filters much with the exception of Viveza. Had problems with the previous version of Viveza that continue with this newer version. Seems like nothing has changed with my limited testing. Again, trial is free for anyone interested how it'll go with their own use.

What is the specific problem you're having with Viveza? I recall a long time ago having some issue with Viveza but can't remember what it was and somethow or the other I got it cleared up. If you were to be more specific about your issue it might jog my memory.decoop123 wrote: I haven't previously used the filters much with the exception of Viveza. The Vivesa works pretty well with files about 3000 pixels on the wide side. But when working with larger files (7300 pixels with my D800) the colors to work with are whacked out. Might be no color (B&W), no saturation, generally pretty useless.

That is a bug in the plugin version of Viveza - at least as it works in PSP - but the standalone version doesn't have that bug and works as it should. There should be a standalone executable for the 32bit version here: Program Files\Google\Nik Collection\Viveza 2\Viveza 2.exe and the 64bit version here: Program Files\Google\Nik Collection\Viveza 2\Viveza 2 (64-Bit)\Viveza 2.exedecoop123 wrote:The Vivesa works pretty well with files about 3000 pixels on the wide side. If you have the standalone executables then you can run the standalone version so that it operates as a plugin by using a script provided by another user, JSJ. The full package of scripts that run all standalone versions of all Nik plugins is available at the link below. It downloads as a zip file which, when unpacked, has all of the scripts and you can choose to just use the one for Viveza so you won't have the bug when using the plugin.
When using the script and saving the changes you made in Viveza, Viveza will close and the changes will show up as a new layer named Viveza on the image you had open in PSP. I use this script, and I bound it to an icon and placed it in my Effects dropdown menu just below the Plugins item in that menu.
You will want to open the script in a text editor and make sure the part of the script showing the path to the executable you wish to use is the same as the path to it on your computer. You can also change whether or not the temp file created by the script (and later deleted by the script) is saved as a jpg or tif. I suggest you use the tif option.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Despite the fact that my description might sound a bit complicated, the script actually works seamlessly and you won't notice any difference using it from using the buggy plugin version, except there's no bug and the editing done in Viveza shows up in PSP on a new layer, which I consider a good thing.

Re: New NIK colection from DxO in Paintshop ?
Thanks for the info Joe. At this point I think I'll forget it for now and continue with what works best I currently use Nikon NX2 for Raw processing and it has an excellent builtin version of Upoint which is pretty much the same as Vivesa. I know that NX2 will not handle Nikon RAW files with some of the most recent cameras but I'll handle that when the time comes.
Thanks again
