I'm pretty new to VideoStudio. I am playing around with it to get my feet wet. But now I must finish a slide show before the weekend (actually have only two days), and I thought I'd follow the manual with regard to adding subtitles. It stated that "1) In the Subtitle Editor dialog box, drag the Scrubber or play the video to the part where you want to add titles. 2) Using the playback controls or manual scrubbing, click the Mark in [ and Mark out ] buttons to define the duration of each subtitle.
SO I did that Mark in bracket and Mark out one, also, and an orange line appeared in the time-numbered area above the time line. Looks like I wasn't in the Title Editor when I did it. The problem is, I don't know what that's doing or what I did, and when I want to play the entire project, it jumps to the beginning of the orange line, and I can't find anything in the manual or online that will simply tell me how to get rid of it? I've hovered above it and right-clicked, that does nothing. Undo won't work because I make some Sound edits (like that I want the output to be NTSC) and had to accept that nothing prior to it could be undone.
So would someone tell me what I did when I put those brackets in place, what the orange line signifies, and most importantly, how I get rid of it?
Thank you so much in advance! I'm actually quite stressed out about it, right now...
Gigi

Re: Must undo "orange line"
Play the clip that has the in/out markers, pause before it ends. Using your mouse, click and drag the left orange trim marker all the way to the left. Next, click and drag the right trim marker all the way to the right.
Done.
Done.

Re: Must undo "orange line"
That orange line is an indicator that you edited the project file, whose start/stop/duration is now indicated by that orange line.
What you probably did was 1) in project mode, 2) grabbed the left hand trim handle (the orange square/triangular marker at left and right ends of the time line bar below the preview window) and dragged it. Easy to do: the trim handle is only just below the time marker at either end of the timeline bar.
The only way to fix this is to again select project mode in the timeline display, and then grab that trim marker and return it (or both of them) to the end-of-timeline position. Should now find the orange line is gone.
There are several ways to move the time marker in a project:
1. using the scroll bar at the bottom of the timeline space, below all the tracks. useful for small movements but tedious if you want to move a fair time distance - eg well beyond the current time display
2. use the time marker (the white triangle) that is part of the time (minutes/seconds) display across the top of the track area. Care here - grab the top of the marker above the time count display. If you grab from below, there's a chance you'll click below the time line and set a chapter point (green triangles where the marker is). If that's happened, open the chapter menu and delete all or the markers you don't want.
3. use the time marker on the preview window time bar. But make sure you grabbed the marker (above the bar) and not the trim handles (below the bar). You'll know you got the trim handle because when you drag, that orange marker drags with you. If you are dragging from a position that isn't the start or end of the project, mishaps like this are unlikely.
The user interface is one of the busiest I've seen. Lot's of useful features there. So you need to be careful when locating the mouse pointer to select or drag anything: near enough generally isn't good enough.

Re: Must undo "orange line"
Hi Gigi
And welcome to the forums
In addition to the advice given view this web page, scroll down to the second image for
----Project Playback Range (the Dreaded OrangeLine)----
http://lata.me.uk/corel/trimbar/trim_bar.htm
It occurs when we hit the Square Brackets (F3 / F4) whilst in project mode
In clip mode they would trim the ends of the clip.
