I'm trying to run smart proxy on a set of video clips in the panel. I highlight a range of video clips and then right click on the mouse. Instead of getting the full list of menu options I just get "insert Media files".
I have tried moving the cursor to various areas on the panel with no success. When I try on just 1 clip the right click button does bring up the full list of menu options and I can then run smart proxy.
Any suggestions?

Re: Mouse Right Click Menu not appearing
I rebooted. When I select a small range (2 clips 1st attempt, clips 2nd attempt), the right click menu did appear. However when I select the full range of clips (100+) no right click menu and "Not Responding" on task manager.

I don't see any issue with WMV and MP4 files (see image) so perhaps VS doesn't see your TOD files as video files.RickMen wrote:I just get "insert Media files".
See if VS auto-creates the proxy files when you add the video files to the tracks; or convert/rename your TOD files.RickMen wrote:Any suggestions?

Re: Mouse Right Click Menu not appearing
It appears that the "Not responding" issue is more wide spread than just the right click menu. I tried to do a simple insert of a split screen template into the timeline and VS started "Not responding". I closed down the PC then restarted it then tried again to insert a split screen template and again "Not responding" (3 mins and still waiting).

See this wikipedia article on TOD files https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MOD_and_TOD
It seems likely that because the TOD file format seems to have a limited usage (by manufacturer) VS doesn't recognise it. The article mentions only JVC as supporting it. And altho I bought a JVC unit in 2008 that used SD/MOD files, when I came to update it with an HD unit in early 2016, JVC had apparently vacated the home consumer market for camcorders: none of that brand available and I did a bit of on-line searching to reach that conclusion. Yet another victim of the rush to smart phone cameras.

Re: Mouse Right Click Menu not appearing
Hi Davidk,
VS2018Ult does recognise the TOD format, I just finished a project earlier today with no issues using VS2018Ult. My old VS X2 pro also could recognise the TOD format so I don't think its a format issue.
Between finishing that project and starting this new one the only other thing I have done on my PC is install the bulk rename utility (as a work around to address another issue I'm having - as suggested by lata/Trevor). The bulk rename utility seemed to work just fine. I can't see why the bulk rename utility would affect VS. I did run a scan on the instal file beforehand and it appeared to be clean.

Re: Mouse Right Click Menu not appearing
After using "End Task" on task manager and then restarting VS it seems to have settled down and is now behaving itself. It is responding in a timely fashion and the right click menu works.
This leads me to another question, is VS2018 temperamental / volatile? I have been reviewing the various topics about VS2018 and don't seem to get the feeling but I am now concerned.

Your first image suggests that when you did right click that the curser was over the background, probably between two clips.
If you right click in the middle of a clip then you should get the correct context menu.
I am able to replicate that showing the wrong menu.
