Can't Install VideoStudio 2018 after Win10 Clean Reinstall
Problem
Can’t install Corel Video Studio 2018 Ultimate
Background Information
System partition had run out of space (c:\) and I decided to perform an OS clean install. After backup and disk re-partitioning process, I had re-installed Windows 10 Pro (ver. 1803, build 17134.81). Fully updated the OS and hardware drivers. Installed all other software without a single issue. Installed other Corel Software without problem (PaintShopPro 2018 Ultimate, AfterShot Pro 2018, Painter Essentials 5, and various plugins which came with my bundle). However, VideoStudio 2018 Ultimate fails to follow the installation to the end.
The software have been installed without issues and have run flawlessly on the previous OS installation.
Problem Detailed Description
VideoStudio 2018 installer take a long time to load the first screen, showing a message of “Searching for Updates”. License key is inserted on the correspondent field and goes for the License Agreement window. Text is scrolled to the bottom, checkbox is checked, and hit the next button, going to the User Experience Program window. Text is scrolled to the bottom, checkbox marked, next. Takes about 3 minutes to load the next window, sometimes the installer crashes during this transition.
The following window – Registration – asks for some personal information to be filled for product registration. All information is entered and receive a positive checkmark, except by the License Key field, which is grayed out and disabled. Same is true for the “next” button. Installer can go back but not forward.
What was Tried to Solve
1. Re-downloaded the installer – no luck;
2. Flushed DNS – no luck;
3. Disabled Firewall and Anti-Virus – no luck;
4. Lowered and then disabled UAC – no luck
5. Disabled Smartscreen – no luck
6. Installer was set to compatibility mode (Win8, Win 7) – no luck;
7. Cleaned the Registry with CCleaner – no luck;
8. Downloaded VideoStudio Clean-Up Tool from this forum, have run it – no luck;
9. Unninstalled all Visual Studio entries from the computer – no luck;
10. Manually gone from Windows Registry deleting all VideoStudio related registry keys; Deleted all VideoStudio folders on disk – no luck;
After trying all these steps, I had formatted the computer again, using a slightly older Windows 10 build (ver. 1803, build 17134.1) to check if it was an OS incompatibility. Again all other software, including other Corel programs, have been installed without issue and work flawlessly, but Video Studio continues with the same problem during install. Even trying to install the software as a Trial Version ends on the grayed out “next” button on the Registration Window.
If someone can point me to a solution, that would be very appreciated.
Thank you very much,
Erik Wroblewski.

Hi RedCrow
And welcome to the forums
You may be best contacting Corel Support for this issue
Are you using the same e mail address as the original installation.?
That should be the same as your Corel account e mail address

Re: Can't Install VideoStudio 2018 after Win10 Clean Reinsta
Hi
Do you have a Corel account showing your registered programs.
That would have been created when first installing the program.
https://idp.corel.com/idp/Authn/UserPassword
I assume the same e-mail address used to purchase was used to set up your User Account.
If you do not have a User Account try creating one, same E-mail address, then register your program.
Try installing again
I think Corel Support would be the best to sort this out.
It is possible that updating your pc has altered some criteria that Corel looks for when installing the program.

Re: Can't Install VideoStudio 2018 after Win10 Clean Reinsta
I had a problem almost the same. After the latest Windows update, my computer gradually began to seize up. First it would refuse to answer the mouse clicks and finally, after three or four weeks it would just stop working after five or ten minutes from switch on. A Win10 re-install was advised and the usual saving of the various hard drives and any files that I wanted to keep were isolated. The re-install was not without it's problems as anyone who has experienced Microsoft's operating system. When Win10 did finally open I found that win10 had deleted CVS X4, 6, 8, 9 10 and 2018. It took me another two days to find the downloaded installation 2018 files that I got from Corel for £21 from a CVSX9 pop up. I had written down the license key, as my memory is gradually on it's way to the fuzziness of old age, and proceeded to download those installation files and the license key. It failed with the instruction to contact support. I made out a ticket and off it went. I couldn't help myself and still I persevered with the installation file and the key. After all day and four or five attempts everything suddenly clicked and CVS 2018 finally opened. The ticket was made out on the 1st June and as yet I have had nu reply. Unless Corel have some magical wand that they wave to enable the license key to work after contacting support. I am now happy again and 2018 is is in pride of place and I do not have to learn how to use Shotcut.

Hi gandalftheg
Good to hear you are back and running the program.
When you download the program it saves the files to a folder on our desktop unless you have chosen another location. If you have another drive I would either download the files again or move the files away from the C Drive.
I always use Notepad to save the details of my serial numbers / license key saving that to the same location as my installation files.
Although if you were to run the web installer again the serial number should be there.
As I mentioned above your Corel Account should have details and serial numbers of all your programs
I am sure Corel would love to have a “magic wand”
Not a bad deal at £21.

Thank you for your reply Trevor. I never thought that there was a full list of all the Corel license keys that I have, going back to 2008. That's an eye opener.

Re: Can't Install VideoStudio 2018 after Win10 Clean Reinsta
Hi Trevor: I bit the bullet and had my computer cleaned out completely with new 1TB hard drive and 36 GB ram and Windows 10. Computer is totally clean in terms of Corel VS, in fact it has nothing on it right now other than a security program. Reading this thread I'm getting nervous about trying to download VS 2018.
Should I not worry and go ahead and try the download? When I tried the download when I ran Win 7 with VS 9 still on that drive, it wouldn't complete the download.
Thanks for your advice.
Candy

Re: Can't Install VideoStudio 2018 after Win10 Clean Reinsta
Hi Candy
You should not have any problems.
When I last re-installed Windows 10 I then installed all my standard programs, Word, E-mail software, image editors, Corel VS etc.
All my video, image and audio files reside on another drive keeping C drive to a minimum size.
Once I had all my preferred programs running I created a Disc Image of the C Drive.
That would be my backup should things go wrong with windows. I am now considering creating a new Disc Image ?
Installing Video Studio
If you wish to install say X9 and 2018, you could use your existing installation files but I prefer to download again, choosing a new Download folder for both programs.
Generally I download first without installing, then install later. (Download Only)
There are approx. 5 separate folders to download, I would choose to download each folder individually, my internet connection is on the slow side? That’s your choice you can download all there should not be any problems. Although you say you have had problems, so download one at a time, start with Main + Service Pack, then Contents followed by Bonus Features.
Running the stub again to install Video Studio, again we can first install the main program then install the other packs one at a time if you wish to do that. Running the program between each install.
When complete I would Reset the program by renaming the 19.0 / 21.0 folder, that will set the FX library list in alphabetic order, and should any filters be missing could fix that, and you are good to go.
Ok so that’s how I do it, download individually and install individually. Maybe overkill but it allows me to test each process.
Ok if you wish to install more than one program you should start with the oldest program making sure it is fully installed with all patches.
Then install the next program.
I have several programs installed and as far as I know have not suffered the Version Collision.
In a nut shell if I were you I would install X9, make sure it works ok, then install 2018.

Re: Can't Install VideoStudio 2018 after Win10 Clean Reinsta
Hi Trevor:
Thanks so much for your input. I'm thinking because I had version collision when I tried to install 2018 with X9 also on the computer, I'm sort of thinking I won't install X9. Thanks for tip on installing each part individually. My internet connection is fast so that should help I'm thinking. I'm without any VS at the moment, gulp, as I have a project coming up. It's kind of liberating though to have a completely clean computer at least for a week or so.
I'll let you know here what happens.

Re: Can't Install VideoStudio 2018 after Win10 Clean Reinsta
Hi Candy
As far as I can see the only reason for the Version Collision is …
1 / if an earlier version (X9) is corrupt and causing problems, then installing 2018, may not fix the problem
2 / Installing X9 after installing 2018, installing an older version last may overwrite any shared / common files
Good luck I am sure the clean install of the operating system will allow your programs to run smoothly.
