linking audio/video cuts on timeline

Post by Charlie Wilkes »

I have some external audio files that go with my video clips. I have synced all the raw clips. Is there a way to trim them simultaneously on the timeline so they stay in sync?

Enable ripple editing (toggle on the left side of the track stack).

I don't think that there is a way to readily trim them simultaneously (Ripple Editing is not sufficient). The best approach appears to be to set the location of marker on the timeline to start point and then make a cut on each image and audio track. Next move the marker on the timeline to the end point and then make a cut on each image and audio track. Finally with ripple editing enabled, delete the cut section on the main track and accept the warning that "related clips will be removed" (see image). Note that Titles cannot be split so will have to be adjusted as required.

With X9 you better save each "synced" clip as separate VSP file, than import them to new project as single .

OK, thank you both. I'll try these ideas tomorrow. Either has to be better than what I have been doing, which is a nuisance.

Hi Charles
not sure i fully understand but
Position curser at cut point, make sure you are in project mode, hit the scissors should cut all clips under curser, delete the unwanted bits

OK, you guys got me all straightened out. I just have to mark my cuts with the scrubber under the preview window, instead of expanding and shrinking clips in the timeline, which is what I have gotten used to doing because my video productions are so primitive. I haven't worked with external audio that was synced to a video track.

Thank you for your help!

Is there a way to put all your photos together, then select a song, and have the pictures timed to play to the length of the song?

Hi

If you set the default image duration to 8 seconds then use a 2 second transition the overall effect will be 6 seconds per image
Adding 50 images will give 5 minutes total duration
We add an audio file at 5 min 30sec, a little longer than the images.
Shift + Click first and last image to select all images
Right click selection to Change Photo Duration adding a few frames
For this example 15 or 18 frames
Length of the project will change, view the project end.
Images will remain selected allowing us to tweak the length. (Right click selection to Change Photo Duration)

Sorry but there is no way to do this automatically
