Pictureshow 4.0 fails at 71%
I'm trying to create a slideshow with only a few pics and during the burn phase under Total Progress: it goes from 'creating disc image file' to 'writing on disc' at 71% then an XP message pops up saying the program has encountered an error and shuts it down.
I moved my burner to a diff system with the same result. Is this my dvd burner (it works fine with all my other burning software) or a pictureshow problem?

clean reinstall
Try reinstalling your program, it might be running unstable with WinXP. Try it to be neatly installed such as deleting registry, program, and install folders or temp folders first before installing it again. ^_^

Failing at 71%
Strange - this is happening to me at 71%. This is the bit where Pictureshow tries to handover to the burn software and appears to fail. I thought that my burner may be defective so swapped it out with another known good and that also failed. The good news is that if you copy the contents of the Pictureshow 4.0 folder as a video it works just fine, so the dvd (cd) is being finalised. Looking to Ulead for the fix - this is repeatable and should not happen.

3.0 vs 4.0?
I've used 3.0 successfully for a month - and just upgraded to 4.0.
This makes me nervous - I have several very complex DVDs I need to burn, and now that I've upgraded, I'm not sure I'll be able to burn a DVD.
What's a work-around to burn a DVD if CD/DVD PictureShow doesn't work?

I was using Pictureshow 3 for almost a year without major problem. Did not have a problem with PS4, but did not try to do a complete burn with it. If Pictureshow 4 fails at 71%, the image is saved onto your hard drive in the PS4.0 folder. Looking through this forum, it would appear that the best work around is to make a disk image rather than burn direct. Let us know how you get on.

Test burn ok
I just ran a test burn - it paused at 71%; then, after about a minute, it continued on to burn the disk.
Note, though, this was a short slideshow of 5 pictures and one soundfile.

I've got the same problem
I bought the full version 2 of this program a couple years ago on a whim. Besically I wasn't particularly happy with the results whenever I tried to include transitions so I stopped using it. As a result of an email promotion from Ulead, I thought I'd try the trial release of version 4.
As soon as the program tried to actually burn, I got the "this program has encountered a problem and needs to shut down message." I tried 2 discs in 2 different burners. It seems to me that if this is a common problem, ULEAD needs to address it immediately or risk alienating other potential customers.
All that having been said, I am trying to access the disc image that others have referred to here. Can you tell me what type of file I am looking for and how I go about burning it. I'm not sure if it is significant, but I have Nero Express as my dvd burning software. Does Pictureshow try to use Nero to burn or does Pictureshow have its own burning software as part of the program.
I suspect these may be stupid question but I am really quite a novice at this type of application.
Thanks

4.0 is working for me
I just rebuilt my slideshow, customizing most of the transitions and pan/zooms. Took me most of yesterday; started the process of "burning" last night & went to bed at 1:00 am (local).
This morning at 5:00 (local) I woke up; burning was complete. So made 11 copies, all which worked.
What I've learned to do is to build an ISO file first (I don't record to disk at the first burn); then, if something halts, I can fix it before it fails the disk burn.
After the ISO file is built, I deselect that option, then I click the Record to disk option.
I suspect that it would have worked fine all along.
IF something's failing at 71% for a number of people, then it seems that there's a major incompatiblity between the software and the device drivers for the DVD burners.
I have a Memorex (I just bought it last month), and it's working OK. Out of 60-plus DVDs I've created, only 2 were junk. (Why DVDs have such a high burn-failure rate is another mystery to me -- I've burned hundreds of CDs, and have had 1 failure.)

Thanks for the helpful info.
I've also tried your method (burn to image disk) and although I am still getting the same error message before it is recording to the folder I am requesting, the files I need are present in a TMP-Burn folder.
Anyway, it seems like a very major pain in the butt but the output when I played back the final dvd on my big screen tv was excellent.
I have one other problem though. So far I've only figured out how to record one slideshow/disk. Maybe I should read the manual!

I have just uninstalled PS4 (and 3) deleted all references in the registry and reinstalled. Still fails at 71%. I have updated my Pioneer 106D firmware, there are no newer drivers available. Everything worked fine, including Pictureshow 3 until I upgraded to 4. Naturally 3 does not work either now! Anyone else have any ideas? Chris

this is not meant as a cheap response
but bummer. Pictureshow has worked so great for me, that it's too bad you're not getting what you want.
At this point, you've de-installed Pictureshow & rebooted & all that, and you can't burn a DVD.
If Windows XP is popping up with that message, then something's wrong (duh!). I'm wondering - do you have any virus scanners? Like the MS Virus scanner beta?
Has any other product been able to burn a DVD?
I'm not sure what you mean by one slideshow per DVD. I have a project with 19 slideshows, with a title menu that lets you select any of the slideshows. Is that what you mean -- multiple slideshows per DVD, each with its own slides and music?
When you create your first project, you have one slideshow that you add pictures to.
You can either click the slideshow green plus icon (upper left corner, under the "File / Help" menu line), or you can split your existing slideshow (click a slide, then click the yellow "slice/slide" icon, about 5 icons from the left in the icon bar).
The name you pick for the slideshow is used on the DVD title page by default. You can change it in the slide viewer, or you can change it on the DVD Title page when you theme your slides (you theme before you burn).

This was driving me up the wall - decided to do a fresh install of XP - nothing else. Installed Pictureshow 4 and guess what? It still fails at 71%. Unable to make an ISO on the hard disk either. I'd like to say that this is a great product, wish I'd never tried to upgrade to PS4, PS3 was just fine.

More failure fodder
I am having a similar problem under Win2K SP4. The burner, Sony DRU-800A came with Ulead products bundled. Like an idiot, I assumed other Ulead products would support the same drive.
I do not know at what percentage it fails, but I do know that it is right after the disk image is written. All of the files are present on the hard drive but nothing gets burned (except the customer that paid for this apparently useless and unsupported product).
I will be given their tech support a couple more days to respond to my support request. If I get no response, then I will contact my credit card company and have them deny the charge. The product is not as advertised and it appears (looking at the rather large set of posts in this thread) that it is not supported either.

I have been working with PS4 now for about a week and finally got one good DVD burned from the software. I want to go back into the .dps file and make some minor changes and it will not recognize the theme and/or re-create a theme. I think this software stinks and is very unstable! I have tried to find out how to talk to a real person now for several hours or get some help from on line tech support. I have sent a message to their tech support several hours ago with no recognition or return response in my e-mail. If I don't hear back from them and can't discover the glitch by the end of today I am going to cancel my credit card payment to this company and look for some other software. I have spent many many hours creating this slide show and some of the files continually have to be re-linked every time they open. This particular problem with the theme is not fixable! I will not spend any more time with this shoddy software. Hope this helps future potential buyers to beware!
