Hi - I downloaded VS 2018 last week. It downloaded but wouldn't open. I contacted Corel Support and got a refund due to I didn't have time to figure it out. In the process they told me to delete all previous versions of Corel VS. I was leary of that due to needing to finish projects in any version but not one that won't open, so I asked for the refund.
Anyway, does anyone know if it's true you have to uninstall all previous versions before downloading VS 2018? I have always kept previous versions back to the oldest of 3 of them in case new ones have bugs.
I am going to get more hard disc space and RAM before trying it again.
Thanks so much,
Candy Dougherty

Re: VS 2018 loaded but won't open
It makes you wonder just what are the qualifications/training of some of the support personnel, there is absolutely no need to uninstall any previous version of VS, you can have as many versions as you like installed, obviously you can only have one open at a time.
The only time it would be necessary to uninstall is when you need to reinstall the same version

Re: VS 2018 loaded but won't open
Hi Guys
Unfortunately yes the latest recommendation from Corel Support Level 2, Austin, (top man) does say to remove all versions of Video Studio, that earlier versions could affect the functions of later versions.
I assume as a last resort when uninstalling the single program fails to fix issues.
At the moment I cannot remember the terminology used to describe this nor the post in question.
“Version Conflict” or something like that.
Candy
I have never had a problem with my projects when re-installing video studio, they have always opened as last used, but do appreciate your concerns.

Re: VS 2018 loaded but won't open
Robert & Trevor: Thanks so much for your quick replies.
Just curious, have you both downloaded VS 2018 with earlier versions still on your computer?
I still had VS 5, 6, 7, 8 and am using 9 currently. I uninstalled 5, 6, 7 and 8 and did the uninstall cleanup on all of them. Interesting in that I got back about 20 GB of space.
I'm still running Win 7 Pro, could be 2018 likes Win 10 better?
I'm going to sneak in a computer upgrade before next project coming up at the end of June, will try installing VS 2018 after upgrade, will do the trial version. Corel was nice about giving me the refund however.
Thanks again,
Candy

Trevor, thanks so much for link to version collision thread. I have printed it. I'm going to uninstall also the 4 other programs he mentions if I have them. I think that thread answers my question for now, thanks again.

Re: VS 2018 loaded but won't open
Hi Candy
I have versions from X5 to 2018 installed.
Recently I removed X4 as that version started giving problems.
If I wished to install X4 I would uninstall all versions then install from earliest version, X4 through to 2018, not worth the trouble as I only have those installed for testing.
If I was not testing I would probably only have X10 and 2018 for my projects, keeping X10 as a “just in case” option
Installing in order makes sure any shared files would use the last installed versions.
Uninstalling Video Studio older versions only removes the main program with some extras MyDVD, etc remaining.
However the latest 2018 cleanup tool as far as I know removes all bits and pieces installed with 2018, that has to be an improvement. I will double check that on my next re-install.
Other than the two personal folders mentioned here.

I think I will update that post with Version Collision details
By the way Video Stuidio X9 should be giving you a good deal to purchase 2018
If you do not see the popup advert, go to Help messages
I see 75% discount at £21.99
If you are intending to purchase in the future then maybe buy now to download / install later

Never worked for me Trevor, when I use it with VS-2018 and it is as far as I am aware the latest version, it only refers to VSX10 which it can't find probably because VSX10 has never been installed on the laptop

“Version Conflict” or something like that.
There are enough issues with VS-2018 without the added burden of "Version Conflict" how on earth did Corel allow that to happen, so if I install VS-2018 on the desktop, Corel want me to uninstall all the other versions, that is not going to happen, are Corel working on a solution or has that been placed in the "too hard" basket, that should be easy enough to find, my basket is located next to my desk.
Should point out though, that like you, I did have early builds of VS-2018 installed on the desktop without any apparent issues

Re: VS 2018 loaded but won't open
Hi Robert
No they are not saying that
If you have a problem running 2018 then it is possible that the earlier version may be causing some conflict, in which case they recommend uninstalling those.
Some users simply purchase a newer version because they are having issues with the existing hoping the upgrade will fix their problems.
Those problems could show when installing the newer version "Version Conflict"
so a clean install of all versions is recomended.
As far as i know there were no instructions to install only one program.
The clean up tool provided on this forum was the latest updated version after release.
If you are still using one of the original files then download the forum version
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=59847
As i said i need to double check but was certain it did a better job
