What advantages does PaintShop Pro have over Photoimpact

I have been using Photoimpact for the last twenty years and it seems to do all that I need to be able to do. In fact I don't think that the last few updates added anything that I wanted, and I don't even use half the functions such as the (powerful I hear) layers.

I just enhance photos in all sorts of ways, including retouching and adding missing bits, and isolate images for use in print designs. Occasionally I create some text that is nicer than I can create in MS Word.

But perhaps I do not know what I am missing. What is a clear, useful advantage of PaintShop Pro over Photoimpact, other than that it works on Windows 10?

(I have not upgraded to Windows 10 on almost all of my computers. I don't like Win10 and generally tweak windows to look like XP or Win7 at a push.)

I am wondering if you meant to compare PI with another Corel program PaintShop Pro, or the one you actually referred to -- Adobe Photoshop. If it was in reality the latter, then we should not really be discussing the merits of another company's programs here. Photoshop is, of course, highly regarded in the professional world, but it has a very professional-level price.

PaintShop Pro, on the other hand, is more reasonably priced. I can't compare that to PhotoImpact, however, since it is at least 12 or more years since I used PI even briefly. But the reality is that Corel has totally mothballed PI for many years. Yes, there are a number of users who continue to prefer it. But with the lack of development, and continuing evolution of the Windows OS, there must inevitably come a day when PI will no longer work as people update their OS... And as we know with Microsoft's mothballing of XP, even an older OS will one day no longer be useable...

I think that my windows 7 and Windows 8 computers have a bit of life in them yet. I have their hard disks backed up. So I think I will be using PI for a while longer, unless there are some significant advantages to Paintshop Pr.

I guess nidhiwani's post is some sort of spam but, I am still using Photoimpact. I wonder if PI will work with Windows 10 which apparently I will have to use soonish, when Microsoft stops support for my Windows 7.

I can't really tell much improvement in software for the past 15 or more years. Hardware has got faster but there is more software bloat.

PI X3 is still fine for my needs: isolating and post-processing images to improve exposure, change colours, and remove unwanted stuff.

Somewhere along the line PI provided an image isolation tool but I rarely use it except on hair. The touch up tool (with the cosmetics, 'compact' icon), that was not there in the first instalments, of of PI is nice from removing dirt, cracks, and skin blemishes.

Windows OS and Office seem to have improved very little since W2k.

I still wonder if Photoshop or Painshop do anything I want.

I wish I could change the colour of black parts of images. This is probably just my lack of expertise.

I have PI X3 installed with Windows 10 although I have not used in a while appears to function ok, just run the program to make sure.

Not sure I understand the change of black colour?
If you attach an image and give more details I will have a look
Don’t hold your breath as I have not used in a while and don’t know about the image isolation tool.

And yes I am aware of the previous posters and the quick reply raising eyebrows?
