PSP 8 not loading after windows 10 update

Post by lazza »

Following a recent windows 10 update, my long trusted version of Paint shop Pro (PSP8) won't load. it keeps saying
'The folder listed below is used to save your user files. It is not currently accessible'.

Any resolution? I've looked at so many 'solutions' from microsoft forums but none work.

It looks as if the only resolution is to upgrade to a later version. But I have always been happy witb v8 and it more than adequately serves my purposes

Welcome to the forum.

When you could previously open v.8, did you have it set for any particular compatibility e.g. Windows 8, 7 or Vista? If not, have you tried using the compatibility tab when you right click the PSP desktop icon and choose Properties?

Completed a new update today 1803, so the one previous to that, history only shows the latest one.

Before seeing yours, I've just posted about my experience a few minutes ago, following my Win 10 Pro update to 1803 (17134.48) this morning.

I assume you did not get a similar request to insert your old setup CD?

Might be worth trying a repair, via Control Panel > Programs and Features.

BTW, I did 'upgrade' to 2018 but still find the familiar environment of PSP 8 too comfortable to leave.

I don't believe Microsoft is offering 1607 anymore. It may have been 1703 if it wasn't 1709. How old is your computer?
Doing a repair of PSP 8.1 did not work for me. It wanted that CD. We will probably have that error come up after each Feature Update from now on, but so far, at least we know how to fix it. Something that might help is for all of us to report it via the Windows 10 Feedback Hub. If the engineers get enough reports about this, they may fix whatever it is that changes PSP 8.1 and throws this error. Here are directions for using FBH. https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Windows-10 ... -p/4008087

The person who made that post yesterday turned out to be a spammer, who we removed along with their post. But the automatic notification goes out as soon as the post appears, unfortunately.
