PSP 2018 Crop Tool : view gets re centered when selected?
also, zooming with the mouse-wheel when using the crop tool centers the view in the middle of the image.. even if it places the bounds of the crop tool entirely off-screen. Why?
Eg. suppose you want to precisely crop a single square from a chessboard pattern: previously you could zoom into a corner of the crop rectangle with the mouse wheel, adjust the it, zoom out then into the opposite corner of the crop rectangle.
It was really quick and simple with previous versions - but now it's infuriating. When you zoom in the view is centered back in the middle of the image (not even the middle of the crop rectangle!) so you have to hunt around with the scroll bars (because, unlike with all the other tools, holding space to pan around doesn't work?).
Is there a setting or registry key to have the zooming and panning work with the crop tool like in previous versions?

Specifically here:
viewtopic.php?f=56&t=63351
We are hoping that in the next update they will either revert it to what it was in PSP X9 or at least add a checkbox so that we can choose which method of cropping we want.

Re: PSP 2018 Crop Tool : view gets re centered when selected
Yeah, I saw the the other threads but didn't find anything about this specific issue. To be honest I was as much venting my frustration* as hoping for a solution - I've got a full Adobe CC subscription but I still prefer PSP to Photoshop for a lot of tasks because I've been using it since maybe before some of the current coders working on it were even born.
*and while I'm at it: when you're zoomed way in, the fact that the cropping rectangle is drawn through the middle of pixels rather than on the boundary between pixels is super-irritating. I guess the use case of close-up pixel-perfect cropping wasn't something that was really considered by whoever implemented it.
Ironically, it was the supposed improvements to the crop tool that motivated me to upgrade.. in X9 the crop tool drives my computer's fans wild - seems like there's some issue where it uses way more CPU resources than it should. But, even with the new behaviour, I think it's a bug that holding spacebar to pan doesn't work.hartpaul wrote:We are hoping that in the next update they will either revert it to what it was in PSP X9 or at least add a checkbox so that we can choose which method of cropping we want.

Re: PSP 2018 Crop Tool :On going crop tool issues
It has come down to ultimatum time with the growing complaints about the crop tool issues.
Myself I started the trouble ticket about the issues of the PSP 2018 crop tool three months ago. The ticket reply from support was level 2 development was to correct the situation in an upcoming upgrade. I use PSP several times a day as I had with every version from as far back as the early versions of JASIC ownership. I’ve probably spent enough on all the versions over the years to support Adobe Photoshop on my system. The point is fix it or the ultimatum is simple, take my box set of PSP Ultimate 2018 back for a full invoice plus shipping refund and I will simply reinstall my copy of PSP X9 that seemed to work nearly perfect and certainly had no issues with X9 crop tool. At lease have the professional curtesy to let the customer base know how the fix is coming along and some sort of an update time line.

Re: PSP 2018 Crop Tool : view gets re centered when selected
You can always check the patches webpage - https://www.paintshoppro.com/en/support/updates/ Click on the "Release Notes" link to see a detailed list of what all is changed/fixed.
PSP2018 download should always download the latest version, all patches included. Those installed from disc should be able to find patches as well. I'm uncertain as to why PSP sometimes struggles, in my experience it does eventually find it. Just not always right away.
If you want to know if you have the latest patch they usually list a "latest build number" on the patch listing. The version number of PSP is usually pretty logical in this regard. Example: 20.1.0.2. 20 is the main version of the program (Major version). 1 is the service pack number (Minor version). The two numbers after that are for very specific small hotfixes and changes. Right now there is only 1 service pack in the patches list but it's technically the second version of patch 1. So normally it should be 20.1.0.1 but because it's the second minor version Update changes your version number to 20.2.0.1.
You can normally see this version number on the splash screen that opens when PSP is starting up. You can also go to Help -> About.

I have 20.0.0.132 so I guess I need to get the latest patch. Can I assume these are cumulative?

I think they usually are, yes. I want to say there were a few times where you had to install previous patches first. The patch description will usually tell you if it's cumulative or not. For example the X9 patch 4 says that it is, a cumulative update. But 2018 only has the one patch. So you're good with that.

Re: PSP 2018 Crop Tool : view gets re centered when selected
Come on this is out of hand and Corel is defiantly avoiding the Crop Tool issue even though I have (2) emails from Corel support telling me there is a development situation with a known problem with the PSP 2018 Crop Tool. Per their support RE mail, Level 2 support is working on it and an update patch is to be released. THIS WAS OVER 3 MONTHS AGO AND NOTHING! How can Corel go on advertising PSP 2018 Ultimate for sale with broken software and that is DOCUMENTED! If you are not going to fix your broken the poorly developed and broken Crop Tool then please just man up and say so. I will simply send back my box set of PSP 2018 Ultimate software for a full retail refund per my credit card receipt and gladly reload my copy of PSP X9 Ultimate that has a Crop tool that works as expected and correctly. Stop avoiding the problem and answer your customers legitimate complaint.
Re: PSP 2018 Crop Tool : view gets re centered when selected
Any word if they will fix.
After install check for updates says there are none but if you look at patches in support there is an update 1 but did not fix the zoom and I use that lots. It did reset my customizations though.
I have to keep using x8.

As expected. From the information on the patch download page:Tanquen wrote:Any word if they will fix.

I don't see why they can't do something like that as part of the update.JoeB wrote:As expected. From the information on the patch download page:Tanquen wrote:Any word if they will fix.
